Any way to check when a house has been previously advertised for sale?

Hi folks! Is there any way to search for properties that have previously been advertised with estate agents, but withdrawn (for whatever reason), without being offered on or sold?

Doing some research and interested in whether a house I've been looking at (recently withdrawn from the market, again I suspect) has been advertised previously. There's no obvious way to do this. Thanks!

Look at the 'house prices' tab on Zoopla. If you search for a street, then pick the house, as well as sale prices one of the things it shows you is past listings (with prices, description, photos, etc). That gives the dates of those listings - it goes back about 5-8 years.

Rightmove do similar - bring up the listing then on the right it will show sold prices nearby.

Underneath those is a link saying something like Show More.

Click on that then find the one you're interested in in the list and, if it shows a picture next to the sold price, click on that.

The OP was interested in withdrawn properties, not those sold.

So far as I know, neither Rightmove or Zoopla list properties that haven't sold, but I'm happy to be corrected.

One way to find out is to ask the neighbours. I would chat to them anyway....better the devil you know and all that.,

Search engines will sometimes reveal previous listings on estate agents' or other sites.

I've also noticed For Sale signs on Google Street View which obviously didn't result in a sale.

Zoopla does but only if the listing was on Zoopla when it was for sale, not all agents use it.

As far as I know Rightmove only shows those that sold.
  • try home.co.uk and look at price history
  • Thanks everyone - I've tried all the above, as well as a bunch of my own ideas (reverse image searches on Google, trawling archive.org), only to come to the conclusion that this info isn't out there. At least not for the place I'm interested in.

(I expect it's sometimes possible to get a cached copy from Google, but I haven't been that lucky!)

Rightmove sometimes seems to - the house we bought was last sold 11 years ago but if I look at the Rightmove history the last listing is from last year (when it clearly hadn’t sold/was withdrawn).

Just checked and for a flat we rented which I know it was withdrawn it doesn’t show that listing - really not sure what the difference is though!
