What does this mean ?

Hi, I use Microsoft Outlook, and have just sent a mass message to a large number of people on my address book, only for a message from 'System Administrator' to come back which states as follows:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
Subject: ...
Sent: 05/11/2007 13:42
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
A... M..... (E-mail) on 05/11/2007 13:42
No transport provider was available for delivery to this recipient.

(this latter piece is repeated for every single person that I sent the email to)

Please can someone tell me what this means, and how do I find out who received the message and who didn't ?

It's a non-delivery report, there are various reasons, some quite technical.

All the info is on the MS knowledge base.

PS if you received it for every single person you sent the message to, then not one of them received the message.

Basically it means that your ISP restricts the number of people you can send a message to in order to prevent an infected computer sending a ton of spam out. Typically you'll find you might only be able to send to a maximum of 10 people at a time for example.

Basically you've exceeded that number and it's blocked every single message and sent a report back to you telling you this.

According to this page it doesn't necessarily mean that every person didn't receive the message. The only way to find out is to ask some of them if they received it.

But Chippy, the original post says that the message was "repeated for every single person that I sent the email to". Therefore, no-one received the email.

No, it appears that some of the recipients received the email.

Is there anywhere where I could find out how many email addresses I can send to ? IPS is ntl.

It appears that OH has resent the message numerous times, so I am going to be rather embarressed if I end up sending the same email to particular people 5/6 times !

But suppose, better received, than never at all ...

Yes, I understand that, however as the linked page says, Outlook ignores the specific user or users which caused the email to bounce and attributes the error message to every recipient, so there's no way of telling who didn't receive it - it could be one, several or all, and the OP has now confirmed that some people did receive it.

izoomzoom - go through the steps in the Microsoft article for a start and also contact NTL support who should know if there are any email limits.

I know Virgin Media (xNTL and xBY) have limits on the number of emails you can send within a time frame, this to combat spam sending etc.

Virgin Media have excellent support via Newsgroups, you could ask in there.

Staff are there until 22:00 every day.

    virginmedia.support.e-mail

    Is the one for e-mail.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Oops... sorry. It is quite clear that I didn't read the linked page properly, but relied too much on the message text.
