following a leaky bathroom tap, we have damp spots/water marks on our kitchen ceiling. the plaster is A1 - no swelling or anything (newly plastered just b4 the leak!! (
how do we best get rid of these/paint over? is there a special paint to apply before repainting the kitchen ceiling?

Let the plaster and damp patch dry out and apply Polycell Stain Block. Comes in a spray can and dries in 10min to a white colour. Then paint over as normal

Make sure the leak is sorted first.0 -
As long as the leak is sorted and the plaster dry, paint over the patch with some gloss paint, then when dry, emulsion over it.0

Wickes sell a paint that paints over dried up damp patches and prevents stains and mould etc from returning0

We used an Anti Damp paint underneath a special bathroom/kitchen paint and this helped
Good luck0 -

You can do the same with your watermarks/stains, but in your case, just undercoat the actual stains, there is no need to do the whole ceiling.:D0 -
thanks.
misgrace - it is only a few small areas so just correcting these is what I'll do.0 -
Your welcome Number 9

Thought I better mention, that if your going to 'spot' the water stains with oilbase undercoat, then you will need to go over the stains after its dry of course, with your emulsion, just dab with your paintbrush, a thinnish bit of paint, do this twice, and it might pay you actually give the whole ceiling a coat of emulsion, as you might see where the new 'spotting' is against the old paint.
After you have dabbed the UC with the thinnish emulsion, when dry, just go over the whole ceiling with a coat of emulsion, again just slightly thinned.(thats if you were going to repaint the whole ceiling:D )0 -
cheers - thanks for advice0
