does billing change after BG smart meter install?

Has anyone switched to smart meters with BG recently, and if so was your billing date/direct debits affected?

For as long as I remember (the last decade at least) I submitted my meter readings in the first week of the month, a bill was produced on the 10th and the payments went out by DD on the 24th.

On the 10th October I got my bill as usual. Then I had smart meters installed on the 17th.

But the direct debit never came out on the 24th. I can see pending DDs about to come out for other things up to the 29th Oct, so it's not pending either.

Checked with BG and they have no idea why the DDs weren't taken.

So, just wondering what happened to other people when they went smart?

A change of meter doesn't usually affect your tariff or monthly DD collection.

Follow the suppliers complaint procedure to get a better more informative answer than "they have no idea why the DDs weren't taken"
  • Got to the bottom of this one - switching to smart meters also switched my account from monthly to quarterly billing.

Asked them to switch it back to monthly - last thing I want is a 3 month bill covering Nov/Dec/Jan !
