US Dollar Savings Account

Does anyone have any experience of US Dollar savings accounts ? What would be the best buys ? Providing beat interest rates with least charges etc ? Is there a comparison tool available for something like this ?

Also many of these if not all appear to be offshore accounts, what would that mean from a UK tax payer point of view ?

It really depends what you are looking if for (apart from saving). I have one with citibank that I use to lodge $ checks it works well for me. I think the rate is about 4% and there are no charges. However they do have a number of different products..
