I haven't got a BT line and don't want one but Sky said I must have one to get a box. Anyway round this?

Yes, pay Sky £25 extra for installation and they'll waive the 'must be connected to a landline for the first 12 months' requirement.

But only for a single box - you have to have the same landline connected to every box in a multiroom installation.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Do you have a phone line at all?

If you don't have one and that's the issue, I think you have to have some kind of phone line, but I spoke to Sky on the weekend about this and if you order your Sky, then organise for BT line to be connected, Sky will refund the £125 BT connection charge.

If you have a phone line but not a BT one then see the other post above.

You dont have to have a landline to get Sky TV anymore as Heinz has already pointed out.

As it's never been a requirement for Sky Digital TV that it has to be a BT line, it can be any provider. When we had Sky Digital installed 1 Oct 1998 it was with a cable line (when cable used to be cheaper than BT, not like the last 6 years where they are the dearest around).

If you want Sky Talk or Sky Broadband, then that is when you need a BT line.

If you don't have any phone line, then you can pay the £25 manual activation fee to pay your way out of the phone line requirement. (Only for single box installs).

You could ask a neighbour to borrow their phone line, hide the line coming in and have the box connected to that, once the activation has been done and the installer goes away, un-plug box from phone line and forget about it. (Only for single box installs).
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
