Anyone who was resident in Scotland when they took out student loans will be delighted that the Scottish government have reduced the maximum repayment term on all loans taken out since 1998 to 30 years.
For those who originally had a write off date at age 65 (loans taken out between September 1998 and August 2007): the write off will now be the earlier of age 65 or 30 years.
For those who originally had a write off date after 35 years (loans taken out from September 2007 onwards): the write off will now be after 30 years.

The Scottish government are also raising the repayment threshold on all loans to £25,000 from April 2021 (effectively shifting from plan 1 onto a new plan 4).
Note that none of this applies to English, Welsh or Northern Irish loans.
