Setting up a Level One Access Point?

I've got an old Level One WAP-0005 access point that I want to get set up for a charity I'm working for. If I plug it in to the network (it's PoE) it starts up but the "wireless" light doesn't come on and no new wifi signal appears.

I've googled the instructions but I'm no techie. There's mention of a CD-ROM setup utility but I don't have this.

Can anyone help?

First thing would be to reset it to default settings and see if it broadcasts any SSID at all.

Have a look on the manual, sometimes a single push just restarts the device, you need to do something else to reset it to default (like pressing the button for 10 seconds, restarting the device while you press the button, etc...).
If that doesn't work, you might need to do an IP scan to find out what IP it is using (you will still need the password to access it), but I don't know how easy it will be for you.

I tried doing a factory reset per the manual but still no wifi signal.

It does say in the manual that "until the wireless access point is configured, establishing a Wireless connection to it may be not possible".

Just under that it talks about a default address to access the AP in the format HTTP://SCxxxxxx where SCxxxxxx is shown on a label on the base or rear, but there's nothing on mine in this format.

I just had a look at the manual, provided that I am looking at the right model, it says that the default IP should be 192.168.0.228, that means that if the AP is on the network, you will need a computer on the same subnet to be able to access it. Depending on what you are able to do, you should try and change the IP address of a computer in the network (if you are on a different subnet, i.e. 192.168.1.X) to match that subnet (for example, use IP 192.168.0.55, subnet mask 255.255.255.0).
That should give you access to that IP address.

That being said, the manual also says that if the reset is successful, you should also be able to see a wireless SSID, which apparently you are not.

This only works if the AP is on the same network/subnet as the computer you are using.

Might have a dud here then. I've tried every combination of pressing the reset button I can think of, no wireless LED and and no wifi signal.

    Thanks for your help.

Rather than spending hours of your time on trying to resolve this might it be more sensible just to spend a few quid on something that will work out of the box?

Charity work, if it is just a matter of changing the settings there's no need to buy a new one.

Likewise, I'm reading what may not be the correct manual, but is the "Broadcast SSID" box on the Basic Settings screen (see pages 44 & 45) ticked?

EDIT: Posted this before realising that you probably can't access the configuration screens because you don't have the CD-ROM with the setup utility.
