I have been to the Vidal Sassoon Academy near bond street a couple of times. Both 'trainees' were already experienced. The session included a wash, style consultation, cut and blow dry. I was very please with the end result. It would have cost over 40 pounds but it was free with voucher in Metro. I don't mind spending three hours as I was treated nicely!

Metro only have the 4.50 voucher recently, with an expiry date on it. A walk in session with out voucher cost around 12-14 pounds, and 5 pounds for student or NHS staff.

For Tony and Guy I was placed in a basic/ classic training class, the session was 2 hours, only cut and blow dry. I would say the experience and the end result is similar as the local salon. It only cost 5 pounds walk in fee or free with voucher.

Overall it abit of luck to get the advance class. My guess is there are better chance if you arrive early (at the front of the queue), have long hair and willing to 'try new style'.
  • I was walking past my local Toni & Guy salon in Warrington a couple of weeks ago and they had a sign up in the window asking for people who wanted free haircuts and just to go in and ask for an appointment. It is only on a Tuesday at my salon, and you are asked to leave a deposit (although I never did). It took them about 4 hours in total and it was a trainee with the stylist supervising, but it may be worthwhile just going in and asking? HTH :)
  • :O i wouldnt complain if i paid five pound for a haircut from toni and guy! i live in glasgow though - any ideas? im always too scared to reply to the 'models wanted' signs outside hairdressers but i really hate paying 20-30 quid or over for a half-decent haircut. hairdressers = expensive, hence i dont go very often. :( anyone know cheap/free and good quality hardressers in glasgow?

Hi, the Rainbow room have a training academy just beside St Enoch Square in Glasgow, my friend gets her hair cut in there , she put her name down when they were looking for people to get colour correction. She couldn't make it when I went and it was free! I would give them a call and ask if they need hair models , much less embarrassing to ask over the phone. The trainees do your hair but are supervised throughout, as the other posters advised just have time available as takes longer than regular appointment

    :)

I always go to my local college for a free hair cut. The trainees do your hair but are supervised throughout,
If I have a perm/color I just have to pay the cost of whatever they use on my hair. I would have thought most colleges would need models.
I could also go there for lots of other beauty treatments which the girls are learning.

Well, if anyone has a voucher for Tony and Guy I can use for my appointment next week, let me know! It has to be the voucher offering a totally free visit and for Oxford St, London.

Send me the voucher and a self addressed envelope and I'll send you a voucher for a free chinese meal at a restaurant - up to 10.00GBP! There are a few (nice) restaurants to choose from around England and you don't need to buy anything!

You would need to post the voucher first class and make today's collection - my appointment is on Monday!

I don't check this forum much so private message me if keen :)

I believe most of the training academies follow the school/uni year i.e. begin in winter & do exams in summer.

So most freebie cuts will probably be offered when trainees are further into the course year. Come to think of it, all of the free T&G cuts I've had so far have been during these seasons.

I pay £10 for a trainee as a model in Toni +Guy, and they love me, I just tell them the shortest i'm willing to let my hair go, and leave them to it, never had a problem, and always get loads of compliments afterwards!
