Appliance for Life insurance

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this and why it's happening...
I have a letter from UK General/Appliances for Life, where I took out appliance insurance when I bought a cooker. Out of the blue I've had a letter offering me a full refund of what I've paid. No explanation, but it says if I don't want the refund to just ignore the letter.
I emailed them to ask why I had the letter and just got back a blunt "as stated in the letter etc etc". Curiouser and curiouser..

I suspect they no longer want to cover your item. I'd google the cooker model and see if there are any known problems.0
