Yellow plastic thing in garden

Hi all,
This might be a stupid question but I was wondering if you could help me identify something. I have recently bought and moved into my first house, and as a result have a (fairly small) garden for the first time. The house is about 5 years old and I don't believe the previous owners were especially green fingered or that much, if anything, has been done out there since the house was first built.
There is one bed at the far end of the garden with some fairly established looking shrubs. Sticking out of the ground on the bed is a yellow plastic marker. It is the same size and shape as one of those solar powered lamps that you stick in the ground, but is just made of solid, bright yellow plastic. I have been reluctant to remove it or look in more detail in the area in case it is marking something important, but I have no idea what this could be. Does anyone know if this is standard practice for marking anything in particular, or should I just get rid of it?

Yellow pipes usually denote gas pipework (more specifically flamable contents). Yeh dont touch it until you find out exactly what it is.0

Thanks for the response. I haven't seen any pipes, just the plastic marker, but then I haven't looked what could be under the soil around it. I might have a careful closer look for piperwork when I get home this evening.0

Is it flat or hollow?
Just thinking if its hollow it should be to water the roots directly until the plant is established?
If its just a label just carefully dig around it with your hands and see where it ends or if its attached to anythingThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Can't think of anything except a string-line winder....
.....but they'd never make it in a sensible colour like yellow!0 -
I would wobble gently - if it is important it should be robust enough to withstand cats, dogs, storms etc.
Ask the neighbours? If the house is part of an estate of similar houses it is unlikely to be the only garden with one if it is an important marker. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

is it just a plant marker or label?
it could have been in a plant pot when bought and the previous owner stuck it in next to the pot0 -
It's the standard hatch opening mechanism for the underground nuclear bunker. Every house has one. Pull it and the steps will reveal themselves.0
