This is because, in the UK, local archivists can choose who they want to use to upload their records. Some chose ancestry and some FMP. I have ancestors in East Yorkshire and some record data is on ancestry, some on findmypast and some more in local record offices.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Next important is being able to print out a hard copy of the family tree.
As far as I can see only My Heritage allows that, although all three will keep the family tree in the archives and allow access even if you are no longer a paying member.
So for me now the clincher between Ancestry and Find my Past is which one allows to print the tree.
Anyone know the answer to this????
Don't bother, just download the gedcom and put it into a program, take your pick from here

Why use a third party when I now know that Ancestry allow me to print my tree.

You've got a strange attitude as well.

I subscribe for a month, every now and again, it's easy to cancel. My guess is that most users don't subscribe for very long at a stretch. I personally wouldn't try to cram everything into a 14 day trial.
Like I guess everyone else, you can find quite a lot of info going back a couple of generations, then it gets hard. In addition to the obvious "John Smith from London" issues, you might find others with trees that include your relatives going back to the 17th century... they look very well researched but can be completely wrong... take them with a generous pinch of salt.
Good fun!0
