This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning
Not too bad a sleep last night but clearly I am still waking at daft o'clock. I was watching a programme about sleep with Eammon and Ruth yesterday and a lot of it rang true for me so I think I need to make some changes
So my friends from Canada arrive today so its T minus zero for house cleaning at about 3pm today. In the meantime of course I will do my headless chicken impression. Have a delivery arriving at 8 of necessary supplies so I need to clear the fridge out before. Also have my befriending call this morning so it will be manic.
I have a fairly simple creamy chicken dish planned for tonight with baby spuds and something green. Not sure how hungry they will be but its easy to add to or take away. They had a couple of nights stop off in Germany so should have lost any jet lag by now.
Right plan is to watch celebs go dating then make a start Hope you all have a good day if you can :A

Good morning and thanks Nelski. Seems dry and quiet outside, I think a fine day is forecast.
I hope you get everything done before your friends arrive Nelski, I'm sure you will.
I too wake at ridiculous hours, I think I'll watch that programme on catch up.
Wasn't out alt all yesterday, we looked after DD's two for a couple of hours in the afternoon while she took the puppy for injections, and did one or two other jobs that are done much quicker wothout two small children in tow.
We are going to collect a parcel at a nearby shopping outlet, and I'll have a look round while we're there. There's an M&S, and the usual big name shops that these places have.
The bathroom is not completed there are still a few little jobs to do before the paper goes on.
Anyway, hope everyone has a good day.
Thinking of the sad and worried, especially TA, and Holly.
Take care folks.0 -
Morning All
Thanks for the start Nelski, have fun with your visitors.
It's damp and drizzly again, seems the norm for the time being but meant to get colder very soon. I'm keeping up with the washing for a change, needs must when it's drying inside. Sadly, the ironing is a different story!
Didn't feel on top form when I got home yesterday so did what I had to, watched something on catch up and went to bed very early (8.15) and apart from a pit stop slept until the alarm went off at 5.30, feel loads better this morning.
Hugs to those in need, have a good Thursday, take care. XX0 -

Hester How is CHS doing? x
I hope Holly is OK x
maddiemay I found that certain things that were supposed to help Scampi actually gave him cues that a scary thing was about to happen too. Not sure if my timing was completely wrong or he's just cleverHe loves flies, chases them about then waits for them to land, occasionally one will land on the floor and he will do a play bow then wait for it to take off again
I hope you find something that works for the fly phobia, it must be awful for her xx
I've ended up with lots of toiletries open at the same time, it's from us having some on holiday while miss tru was using the others at home. This annoys me so much so I'll be decanting today and making room in the bathroom cupboard, there's not enough room for the loo rolls I've just boughtI'll empty the cupboard and give it a good clean while I'm at it. Must hoover downstairs too.
I don't think I'm going to get much else done today, mum and dad are coming round with Little Mate at about 11am. LM's class is doing a project about autumn, they've been asked to collect a few leaves during half term, I'll see if he wants some from the garden. Should be fun, LM and Scampi are good mates so the pair of them out there will mean lots of play and mess

Morning everyone
Nelski - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that need/want one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark but dry underfoot, air cooler. Hoping for a dry day, if possible I'd like to get some washing line dried.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a mo as he wants to run this morning before catching a lift with me and attending the gym.
Dinner last night was roast chicken, mash, carrots, peas, LO cauli/broc cheese, LO swede, LO yorkshires and gravy, DH had ice cream for dessert I had apple and fat free greek yogurt. I'll need to sort out dinner whilst I'm out this morning.
Work yesterday wasn't too bad, although we had one problem after another, telephone lines not working, technology not working - for a while complete chaos as some areas were working and others not...!! Eventually we got some systems back. I had some time allowed (as we all have to do a small online training programme) to do the online training, my password etc didn't work - this is what they set up for you and give you it - so now I have to be re-scheduled and they will give me a new password etc.
Today I have all the normal chores to be getting on with, going to visit town first to do chores needed there. DSis1 rang last night to ask if I could see if we could get mum and haircut as it looks a mess and we have her sisters funeral on Monday - but she wasn't well again Tuesday so we'll have to see how she is and then see if I can get something booked either for today, tomorrow or Saturday. I have all the other normal "to do" list chores. Washing basket seems to be overflowing and I've done a wash every day and DS2 has put it out on the line to dry. He has had a major tidy in his room, so thing he's deposited a fair amount into the dirty wash basket!
I'll just have to get going and get done what I can.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:
It's not too cold here this morning, I haven't had to put the heating on which is nice. I have a busy day planned as I am looking after my grandchildren for the day as their stepdad has been working nights and needs to catch up on some sleep. My friend is also coming to see me which is lovely. She seems a little less manic so hopefully will be coming out of that phase soon. She absolutely adores my grandchildren and treats them like her own so she will be over the moon that they are here for her to spoil.
nannywindow, I hope you had a lovely time yesterday for your anniversary xx
nelski, thanks for starting us off this morning and I hope you have a great time with your visitors. What's the phrase?...Nothing cleans as well as company coming....or something along those lines :rotfl:.
Wishing Holly a good recovery and hopefully they will have her pain under control xx
Thinking of TA and her family, I hope everything goes well tomorrow xx
Hugs and cwtches to all those in pain or worried xx
I am making a chilli tonight and serving it in a tortilla bowl with salad and wedges. Lee wants to bake today so the kitchen will be out of bounds till later. He wants to make some halloweeny type food so I am looking forward to seeing what spooky things he will concoct.
Right, I am off to get washed and dressed before everyone arrives. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all
Cooler here again today but meant to be nice later on, getting much colder next week apparently, we have a load of logs coming Saturday to go with the big load we have in the shed so a good start on the winter.
I have woken with a horrible sore throat which came on in the night I have taken some tablets so hopefully it will die down soon.
Specky you really are a gent, I really respect the way you have treated TGFW :T well done you. We have been making some Halloween bits and bobs as we go along and will do some next week too, I have decorated the caf! and need to order a few pumpkins for display / soup, some clients love the changes but some cant cope with it at all so we do have to be careful.
Tru Im glad the pills worked for Scampi it will be interesting to see if they work for fireworks, we make Evie a 'bomb shelter' out of cushions and a blanket and have the tv on to cover noises and then give her some of her 'special' tablets and it works a treat, good luck !!
Gammon to go in the sc before work this morning and we will have it with mash asparagus and roasted tomatoes tonight, and some with some chips tomorrow night.
Have good days all xx0 -

Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Nelski enjoy your time with your visitors
Gentle hugs to all who want/ need them.
nannywindow, I hope you had a lovely time yesterday
Woke at 3 this morning. I would have preferred sleep but in a way it was nice to have a little quiet me time to think my thoughts. OH seemed a little more confused than normal yesterday, good days and not so good.If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Didn't fetch the sewing machine yesterday, forgot it shut at one and I wasn't back from hospital till half one, but I did pick up the velvet curtains fron ebay for the downstairs bay. Will unpack them and find something suitable to extend them today.
Fingers still pants, although should be able to hold a brush and finish the damn painting. This must be the longest DIY job I've ever done....Ah well.
We bothhad fish and chips last night, OH went out after, I fell asleep in carb coma until he got home. Tonight, will maybe get some chicken to make fajitas. will sit down next week and inventory the freezers, I stocked them up pretty well, I just haven't done any forward planning regarding meals, so there's lots of food, but no inclination to cook any of it in advance...
Good to hear CHS is coming home, good luck with preparations. Enjoy your visitors Nelski, love having them, but it is stressful preparing, you end up stressing about cleaning etc and doing things they never notice anyway, so relax. Hope yeserday went well nanny.Sorry to hear that too SO, if only there was a magic wand. OL, keep your own in mind, you can't do everything for everyone.
A good swift pain free Thursday if possible, logburners and blankets and drugs if not...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Good morning all. Thanks Nelksi for starting us off, have a great time with your visitors.
Gentle hugs to Holly, taff, polly, TA and family, Hester and CHS, so pleased that he is coming home. SO boo to the lack of sleep, but it is not so bad if you are warm and cosy. Nanny I hope that you had a great day yesterday. OL try and take care of you, it is so easy to be drained by others. Quiet vibes for the pets likely to be affected by noisy bangs etc.
Gym session this morning, won't be easy, joints stiff and a bit painful, done an Arnica oil massage of some of the offending parts in readiness. Then ought to pop and see Mum. I really need to sit down and do some e-mails to friends and some family members, brain gets too tired to make sense in an evening, it's an easy tea of pie or quiche and veggies so perhaps I will try an get my typing done first.
Right need to whizz around with the vac, take care all.The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0
