Howdens Kitchen Quote

Hi All,

Needed a little help. I've never brought a kitchen before and received my first quote from Howdens. I have Wicked coming out next week too. Is this quote fair and in line with the amount of cupboards etc? Totally clueless with all this :eek:

Is there any savings I can make? I plan not to use their appliances and source my own.

Howdens have a sale at the moment and apparently better discounts are possible. I would have a go at haggling and getting some of the dicounts a bit better. Most of mine are 85/90% discounts so there may be room for you to squeeze a bit more.

Yes, aim for 80%+ discount on units.

And remember - for a £400 rrp unit:

70% discount = £120
80% discount = £80

Ie. 10% extra discount amounts to a 50% reduction in price!

OP, this is a good point, but rather than concentrating on whether the Howdens quote is "fair" you first need to think a bit more about what your budget and objectives are.

From previous threads I understand this kitchen is temporary until you have an extension built, at which point this kitchen will become 'just' a utility room. Presumably with some of the units and appliances removed.

Therefore I'd consider how much I want to spend on a temporary kitchen, given that some of that budget could potentially be saved and used to bring the future extension project forward by some months or years.

In the other thread you said your objective is that you "need a new simple kitchen"... make sure you don't lose sight of that in the dazzle of 80% discounts. An 80% discount is meaningless if the RRP is massively inflated to start with.

It is equally valid - if money is no object - to simply buy whatever you want now of course. But then if money were not object would you be worrying about the size of the discount and whether the price was fair?

All good building projects need clearly defined objectives and budgets at the start.... otherwise you can find yourself throwing money away.

However, as they sell to trade only I'm planning to pass the design and spec onto the different builders I'm getting quotes from to see if they can get a better discount as they use them regularly - that approach was suggested by one of the builders who came to quote up the installation and other decorating work I'm having at the same time.


So maybe it is worth contacting a local installer and see what they can get for you?

You do not have to be trade.
My daughter ordered a kitchen from Howdens last week (in the sale), they came out and measured, we went to the 'showroom' where they put a design of your kitchen on a pc for you to see. You can tweak, add or subtract items and they print out your design.
The units are ready-assembled, which is a godsend and saves on fitter's wages.
They have also paid for her's to be stored until we are ready, (you have to arrange your own & they reimburse).

Have you tried the same spec using DIY kitchens, better quality and probably cheaper. I find the pricing at Howdens downright misleading with these fake inflated prices and bizarre discounts. I just wouldn’t deal with them on principle.
