NIP at old address what next?

Hi
I moved house several months ago and never got round to changing address details with DVLA. Then in september i had a accident and was off work and could not drive until now. I picked up my mail from my old address this week and i have a notice of intended prosecution from the safety camera unit of the police force. This offence was carried out in June and the letter is dated in July and gives me 7 days to give them the information and who was driving car otherwise it will be referred to the magistrates court. No one has contacted me and they do not know my current address, so what will happen next will they actively go pursuing this? or am i best phoning them and explaining that i forgot to change address and have been unable to pick up my mail for a while. What options have i got please

thanks

You're best off contacting them unless you fancy six points and a fine in the region of £600.

I think you should just put it in a drawer and forget about it.
  • Hi
I did contact them and explained situation and now they ate taking me to court yes I am guilty of speeding but there are mitigating circumstances why I did not get the letter from them. Is there any point in me going to court to explain this or is it best to plead guilty it says on form if I plea online there may be reduction in fine and will I save court costs if I don't go to court? What is the likely fine to be for doing 29 in a 20 zone? Do I have to fill in form supplying my income and outgoings will that go against me. Any advice appreciated

I don't see what mitigating circumstances you could claim. The letter was at your old address in July so you had plenty of time between then and September, when you became unable to drive, to collect it but didn't. You could also have previously set up a mail redirection or do as the law requires and update your address with DVLA.

Have they just charged you with speeding, or with failure to furnish details of the driver? The latter is much more serious. Go to pepipoo.com for the best advice.

Your mitigating circumstances could actually make matters worse. By your own admission you failed in your legal obligation to update your V5c in a timely manner.

You also failed to ensure important post was redirected to you.

This would appear to be a situation of your own making.

Is it uncomfortable spending all your life wearing a tin foil hat?

Nah it's quite fun being normal even if you class it as having to wear a tin foil hat.

Its seems to be history here on mse of Ex police and flexing those measuring tapes! I bet andy is ex police and Car54 and waamo or close to being something to do with police or legal system, all something to do with police anyway. All police are do gooders, and when they get older and retire turn into curtain twitchers and forum divers for attention that they got when they were serving.

They just gotta have that confrontation, they crave it.
