Leak from neighbour

Hello everyone,
I am just looking for advice. I live in a terraced house and I share a footpath with my neighbour. Half of our houses goes over the top of the pathway. My neighbour has a leak in their bathroom which is dripping quite considerably. This is going onto the pathway however, it's going down my outside wall. I've put buckets out and have to empty them every few hours. This has been going on for about 4 weeks now. They promised that on Tuesday it would be fixed however, that's been and gone and still nothing is fixed. I am getting quite concerned due to my house getting damaged. Where do I stand on this?
Thanks everyone!

I don't quite get how the leak is going from their bathroom, to your outside wall, to the shared pathway? Could you expand a bit more on this?
I think what I'm trying to work out is actually what damage this is going to cause. Can the water be diverted somehow?
Still, a good first step is to contact the council who can force the owner to take action.0 -
Sorry, I'll try to explain a little more. Their bathroom is above our shared alleyway and my house is joined on to theirs. Their bathroom is leaking and there is a concrete beam that goes the length of the alleyway underneath their bathroom. This whole beam is leaking and the water is dripping from it as well as running to both ends of the beam. At one end of a bean is my house and at the other end is theirs. There is so much water that it is coming down our wall making it damp as well as dripping in the middle of the beam causing water on the floor which is being soaked up by the brick from the floor.0

Also, we are both homeowners.0

They might, but that would only be in extreme circumstances. I don't think the OP is there yet.Still, a good first step is to contact the council who can force the owner to take action.
Trying to bring the council into what is essentially a private problem would, at best, alienate a neighbour who is already less than caring about their relationship with the OP. Worse could follow.
OP, you need to go back to the neighbour who is not taking this seriously enough. You have a right to know what's causing the leak, why it hasn't been fixed and to agree a deadline for action.
Your buildings insurer might be able to give you more advice and support, and if you have legal cover, they'd be happy to advise on the next steps for dealing with what is legally termed a 'nuisance.'0 -
A picture would help us to understand the issue.
I'd be taking many pics to a) have evidence if needed to support a future insurance claim for possible water damage and b) to let your neighbour know how seriously you think this problem is.
Is the water coming from a water overflow pipe? if so, any diyer or plumber could easily fix.0 -
Can you score a groove across the beam so that water pools up and drips before it reaches your house?0

The council won't do anything but the water board will give them a ringI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
