Ex-husbands Credit card debt

I totally agree that yes I am responsible in having to pay back some of the debt as I spent proportion of it, what I have a problem with is that mine and mine alone is the name that is now somehow linked to the debt (something that my ex kept hidden from me until I discovered differently just the other day).

I was only suggesting that a 'moral' responsibility might fall upon you to help pay - not a legal one. It seems you have been fulfilling your part of the 'unspoken' bargain but your ex-husband may have been up to some jiggery pokery somewhere along the way (just a hunch).

You still need to contact the card company to understand whether they can shed any light on exactly who they had down as the debtor when they sold it on and ask the debt company for evidence that you entered into a credit agreement related to this debt. Then, it may be time to stop paying until you get answers from all concerned - including your ex.

Seems as if he's been letting you shoulder full responsibility for something that should legally be all his own.

The only logical explanation is that your ex obtained the card in your name. Even the most dodgy debt collecting agency wouldn't chase a debt in someone else's name

    Not sure about that...

Even as an additional card holder, the main account holder is responsible for the debt.

Send a prove-it letter to Captial One or the Collections Agency chasing the debt

Yeah - you could modify it a bit. Our standard one is pretty blunt.

    Try this one:

    https://debtcamel.co.uk/prove-it/

    Maybe replace

'If you have reason to believe that a valid debt exists and that the Debtor resides at this address'

    with

'If you have reason to believe that I am the liable person for this debt'
