Spark energy taken me to debt collectors, yet have never used spark!

Options
Hi,

I received a letter from arvato claiming I owe money to spark energy. I have, as far as I'm aware, never used spark energy and therefore am a little confused.
Naturally I contacted spark energy who told me to contact another debt collection agency and would not tell me what my account was or the dates I consumed said energy.
I also have tried to contact arvato but to no avail.
I'm obviously happy to pay if I do owe something however I would like to know what I actually owe the money for first!

Thank you for any help in advance

Are you a tenant. A lot of landlords get a rake off from Spark so swap their tenants over.

Who do you think supplies your energy. When was the last time you had an energy bill, who was it from. Did you open an account with the existing supplier when you moved in. Do you read your meters regularly and send the readings into your supplier.

If you cant answer these questions then you might well be a Saprk energy customer and owe them money if you haven't been paying for energy.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
  • I am a tenant , however I am with bulb energy and previously to that greenstar. I change every year and keep in with meter readings. Bulb took a payment the other day from me so fingers crossed they are still my supplier.
I keep all my paperwork and none of my energy suppliers have been Spark which where my confusion is stemming from

When you moved into the property it was possibly supplied by Spark up until the date you started getting your energy from Greenstar. Even though you will have wanted Greenstar to be your supplier upon moving in you would have been on a deemed contract with Spark until the switch to Greenstar completed.

It is common for letting agents to move the supply to spark between tenants as they get a back hander for doing so.
  • I double checked who my supplier was when I moved in and it was Eon! Then I changed to EDF then green star and now Bulb . Hence my serious confusion! This is why I just wanted spark to give me a date of supply so I at least can disprove Iwasnt supplied by them
  • Thank you for your help. I finally got through to the debt collectors. It seems it's for my previous tenancy for a date after I had already moved out! Thanks again
  • My partner has received a threatening letter from Arvato about a debt that he doesn’t have. We responded with a prove it letter. They replied saying they bought the debt off Lowell’s and they would contact them to get them to send evidence. We received nothing, so we complained about them to the FCA and we wrote to Arvato to tell them they must have the wrong person and not to bother us again.
It went quiet for about 6 weeks, but on Saturday we received 2 letters from Arvato, one saying they now have information about the evidence they have and that we should telephone them to get this information, the 2 nd letter that came with it was a new copy of the original debt letter they sent us.
We are so cross that they should be allowed to act in this way. It has caused me a lot of stress and worry and I don’t know what to do now other than the re-send another copy of the prove it letter and complain about them again to the FCA.
