Out of pocket expenses due to card being declined

In a nutshell, my HSBC Credit Card got declined when I tried to purchase a new annual season ticket. To get it unblocked is going to take a minimum of 24 hours so I have to spend about 60 quid on tickets to get to and from work while they sort this !!!!!!!! out.

My question is, how likely is it that I will succeed in my complaint claiming they should reimburse me for these travel expenses? Has anyone been able to get back out of pocket expenses accrued due to a card being declined?

    Depends on the reason for it being declined.

    Some of these anti-fraud measures do decline a transaction but the card provider normally rings (often on a automated service) a few minutes later asking you if the transaction was valid and tells you to resubmit a few minutes later. This works ok if they have your mobile number but not if they dont.

    However, in the bank T&Cs they are allowed to block a transaction that they feel may be fraudulent.

    if it is due to lack of cleared funds, then its your fault.
    if it was an IT fault then you may get a goodwill gesture.

    A new annual season ticket is normally bought in advance. So, wouldn't cause any additional expenses as your current one would not have expired and its unlikely you would have left it to last minute to buy one. if you did, that is a risk you chose. So, they wouldnt have any reason to refund you anything in that respect.
