Abbey National PPI

Hi
In 1993 I took out an Abbey National Mortgage interest only over 22 years. Part of this was a Protection Plan sum assured 9,000 with a term of 22 years in case I died. I have the confirmation of Mortgage Recommendation which shows this.
I wrote to Santander and they replied statng that they had reviewed their records but cannot trace any Paymentcare attached to the mortgage and that the documentation provided to them (by me) was not Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance and instread refers to Life and/or Critical Illness Policy.
Can I therefore surrmise that they are right in saying this and not trying to get out of paying PPI? Thanks

They're not trying to get out of paying PPI, as you didn't have PPI.0

They are correct. Life assurance is life assurance. Life assurance is not Payment protection insurance. Also, for completeness, your house insurance is not PPI either. Nor is car insurance, pet insurance, holiday insurance and any other insurance that is not payment protection insurance.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

But what we can take comfort from in this absolutely farcical situation is that we now have a large section of society that regards any type of insurance with a mixture of suspicion and contempt and will therefore either not take any steps whatsoever to cover themselves in case of unforeseen eventualities or even worse will view any existing policy as some sort of cash cow that can be refunded at the drop of a hat :T0
