Quote to replace lintel above window

Hi, I need to have a lintel replaced above a bedroom window as the current metal one is rusting.
I share the gable end the window is on with my neighbour.
I've had the following quote :-
  • Errect scaffold at rear
  • Take down brickwork to rear gable end (my side only)
  • Remove lintel
  • Replace with concrete lintel
  • Rebuild gable end brickwork, tieing into neighbouring gable end.
  • Clear debris and remove scaffold.
The price I've been quoted for this is £1800 + VAT.

Does this sound reasonable?

Cheers.

Neil

Surely not the WHOLE cable for a lintel ?
  • That's what I thought.
Here's a (very simple) diagram of the back of the house.

    how wide is the window?
there should be no need to remove all those bricks! acrow props will hold up the weight whilst the new lintel is fitted.
i would also use a catnic metal lintel instead. lighter!

    get some more quotes first.
id do the job for 900 quid!
    Get some gorm.
  • I've actually done a couple of these jobs and it was less than £1k INCLUDING a new Up.v.c. window, making good internal plaster and external render.
    Opt for a catnic lintel.
    Get at least 3 quotes.
