0% interest on MBNA credit card

Hi there

I got an MBNA credit card which apparently had 0% on purchases for 36 months. I found out that that only applies to purchases made in the first 60 days so I've been charged interest on purchases that I've made after the 60 day period.

I was wondering whether I could pay off the balance of the more recent purchases, or whether any payment would be credited to the 0% balance.

I'm going to apply for a new 0% purchases card (and read the small print more carefully), but don't know whether I'm able to get the MBNA card back to a 0% status, or whether I should cut my losses and do a balance transfer elsewhere.

I'd really welcome your expert advice!

Your payments will go to the highest interest transactions - so your most recent purchases.

Use a different cardsm for future purchases, otherwise you will always be charged interest, as you are not clearing the entire balance
  • Read your terms and conditions and CCA again.

You may not have qualified for the 0% promo which likely means you may not with another lender

    Or maybe OP is correct.

I took out an MBNA card not expecting a clause like that, I think mines was 90 days.

Luckily I did read the terms before using/activating the card. I then phoned them up and closed the account.

A waste of a search but a lucky escape.
  • Yes.
Correct in that they didn’t qualify for the promo.

Also all card statements state the default terms regardless of you being on a promo or not.

I think it’s fair to say that you are just not getting it.

What bit of 0% for 36 months did they not qualify for?

    Any part of it.

Promo's are based on eligibility as well.

I've got a similar MBNA card but mine is 15 months interest free on purchases made in the first 60 days.

I have 2 weeks left to spend 10k. I have bought some gift cards and the curve card has been useful. Anyone got any other suggestions?

Might be an idea if you read up on MBNA credit cards. Just because you think you know what you are talking about doesn’t mean that you do.
