Hi, looking for some advice please.
My husband said he's had his account hackdr and around £900 stolen from his account.. He has the most basic account Halifax offer, and because of this they have said there is no insurance on the account for fraudulent transactions. The fraud team need to investigate and prove that the transaction was indeed fraudulent before issuing a refund. This happened nearly two weeks ago. Something doesn't seem quite right, I feel there should have been a result by now? He said he spoke to the bank today to be told they are investigating but they have other cases before his.
On the financial conduct authority website it says the bank should issue a refund by the next working day unless they have very good grounds to suspect negligence from the customer.
Can anyone shed some light on the situation please? I've never known it take so long to get a refund from fraudulent activity

How many refunds have you had from fraud in the past? You're terribly unlucky if this has affected your family more than once.
What insurance were the bank talking about? If you've been defrauded the bank will refund. Just give them time, 2 weeks isn't much. Something, indeed, doesn't feel quite right.0 -
As above, how much past fraudulent activity has he had?0

As others suggest - something stinks here.
Suggesting you've never known it take so long to have a fraud refunded sort of hints that being defrauded is something of a habit.
How do you know his account was 'hacked'. Someone signing in using someone else's details isn't hacking it's just unauthorised access and theft. Someone would need to know his user name, password and second-level security info to get in.
If someone were able to hack into a Halifax bank account, they'd have done a lot more damage than this and many, many accounts would likely be affected.
Does he have any of this info stored on any device that could be 'hacked' into - or just plain looked at?
Is your husband able to see where the payment went (assuming it to have been an online payment)? Doesn't Halifax require some level of security to be worked through to set up a payee before any money can be paid away?0 -

.................I wonder if the theft has anything to do with gambling at all?0

When you say "My husband said" it makes me wonder if you are together, or if you've separated and this is the start of some complex story he's telling you to explain why he cannot pay you for something.....0

.......... He has the most basic account Halifax offer, and because of this they have said there is no insurance on the account for fraudulent transactions......
It seems unlikely that Halifax will have said this. What insurance would there be? And why would the type of account matter? Fraud on current accounts is treated the same way regardless of the basic-ness or otherwise of the account.
As others have said, there's something a little wrong with this scenario - someone's either misunderstanding something or is trying to make excuses for something.2 -
Here's all the Info I have about the situation...
My husband told me he had a call from the Halifax fraud team nearly two weeks ago saying there was unusual activity on his account; a debit of over £900 by a random security firm (that doesn't exist). He went into the bank to sign some paperwork and speak to them. He was told that they need to investigate the matter and prove it is a fraudent transaction before a issuing return of the funds, as he has a basic account which doesn't have fraud insurance?? (He might have misunderstood something here, I don't know, as it seems odd) they didn't give a time frame of how long this would take, just that once the investigation is complete it would take 5 working days for the funds to appear in his account.
He has not been given a new card, or his account closed and a new one opened or anything??
If a person has indeed stolen money from his account couldn't they do it again if none of his details have changed??
Another bit of info he said is that if they haven't proved he was at fault within six months they will refund the money.
Many years ago I had my card cloned and money stolen from my account and it was refunded within days. I also know other poeple where this has been the same.
