    No that is normal.
Its a courtesy car that you are not insured to drive .
You can refuse the car .

I'm insured to drive courtesy cars. It's third-party only, but I am still insured and legal to drive.

It's a common feature on fully comp insurance policies.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

You don't have to pay it, just get your own insurance to cover the car then.

But the dealer would want you to be fully comp, hence the charge or the option to make sure you're have it transferred onto your own policy.

I have third party for other "private motor cars". I'd check your policy if I were you in case its similar wording. Unless you have a trade policy.

Not quite the same, but ... I recently had a courtesy car while my (company/lease) car was in for a repair. The garage took a note of the corporate insurance policy for covering the courtesy car.
  • I had this before, not for a recall but a warranty repair 2 weeks after I bought the car. I complained via head office and they waived the fee.

The last time we had a courtesy car we had to add it to our own insurance

Different dealers, different policies. I've not had to pay any extra insurance fees for the last 3 BMWs I've had as courtesy vehicles.
