What difference does it make to them if I hold £1000 in company X or £1000 in company Y? At the end of the day, their decision is based on my capital and I have shared this information with them,

I worked on ESA new claims processing for years and it was very rare for any claimant to give precise details of the number of shares they held in a company. The figure would normally be rounded and, for benefit purposes, the precise number is important. It's really no different to wanting to see bank statements for savings between 6 and 16k.
As has been said, nobody can force you to provide that information but by choosing not to you are effectively withdrawing your claim.

My work coach said the exact same thing. She's been working there for around 3 years and said she's never seen someone that has been asked to provide so much information. But even then, as you said, I either provide it or withdraw my claim.
