HSBC are a waste of space. They did the exact same thing to me earlier on in the year.

Signed up for the HSBC Advance account, and got asked to present my ID ONLY into branch. I did and sat with the lady working there with my bank statements (to prove my address) whilst she stated I didn't earn enough. I'd presented the statements to her and proved that £2000 had gone into my account for three months straight, but still wasn't good enough.

Phoned customer services explaining the letter just wanted me to present my proof of address and they explained something had gone wrong on the system regarding my address so it was just a confirmation of it really, booked me another appointment at another branch. Where everything was plain sailing.

Then two weeks later, I still hadn't received my bank cards. Turned out they'd never even ordered them in the first place! They told me I'd also been pre-approved of a credit card and wanted more proof of income, despite them having it on record from my first visit. In the end I did the same and told them to forget it.

Absolute useless bank. I've never known anybody worse than HSBC. They were my first bank when I started banking and were as bad then.

By repute the bit of HSBC that works is First Direct.
Free the dunston one next time too.
  • !!!, I'm not expecting to get anything. I simply want to make the bank and others aware of how incompetent HSBC is. If people don't complain about poor service how are they ever going to improve it? Unfortunately, it appears their complains procedure is just as bad as their new accounts process. Maybe I should raise another complaint about their complaints process (only joking). ;)

That sounds more like filtering applicants than fault .
Remember you are dealing with a bank .
  • I've tried three times to open an account online - last screen says "your application has been successful. We'll be in touch soon". I've not heard anything from them since.

Useless on the phone and too busy to open up an account in branch.

    Should I take the hint!

    This seems like a one-off.
    .

There seem to be a huge number of one-off issues with HSBC. Of all the accounts I've opened the most inefficient/slowest service was HSBC
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • Just to add my tuppence-worth. I opened an Advance account 31st October (Weds), accepted instantly and the following Tuesday I had my Card, then on Weds I had the pin.

Also their CS help to set up my online account (admittedly after their error registering my phone banking) was exemplary.

However, asking for 2 lots of proof of income seems a bit much, and the delay is not really acceptable.
  • HSBC, God I remember what a nightmare it was trying to open an account for the tennis club. Another one off I'm sure! So many trips and they kept losing documents. That was back in 2015 and it doesn't sound like they've improved!
  • I am having a very similar AWFUL experience with HSBC, trying to obtain a credit card from HSBC. Despite taking in the required ID into branch, numerous calls and emails- 6 weeks later am still none the wiser if I have been accepted. I was looking to move all my banking to them, as liked the App etc- but after this NOT A CHANCE!
