Pip and tax credits

I have been recieving pip since October 2016, I also recieve both child and working tax credits. My pip claim has just been rearwarded/renewed and then I get this letter from HMRC saying I am entitled to the disability element of working tax credits.... This is great news but why wasn't this letter sent out to me when my award started? Is this my fault? I didn't have a Scooby doo about the disability element

  • You are meant to inform them when you get awarded PIP so they can add the element. You are lucky they have discovered you're eligible or you'd still be missing out.

You should have reported the change when you started to receive it. Your awards notice advices you to.
