Online food shopping vent

need to vent my anger at Tesco's , did an online shop ordered coffee and tea which had an offer, paid and got sent the invoice with my shopping details, delivery was 2 days later and have now received a CC statement and they had charged me £20 more when I questioned them they said that the offer wasn't available on the day they delivered they only give you a guide price and that could change when your order gets delivered, which I find ridiculous , if it states a price when I order I should pay that price, also I didn't get an update invoice to state this otherwise I would have cancelled. Also when I mentioned OK what about if I placed an order one day at a price and they day od deliver the price went down would they credit me back the difference, I didn't get an answer to that question. Is this right?

With supermarket food shopping that does tend to be the way they do it. They have a special deal until X date and you're charged at the price on the delivery date.
I guess it's to stop somebody, say, ordering that coffee at the cheaper price, to arrive monthly for the next six months.0 -

It's more complicated than that. Other supermarkets have different Ts&Cs.
Tesco
"Please note that the prices on our Grocery website and app are guide prices only. The actual price you pay will be the price charged in-store at the time your order is picked for delivery."
Sainsbury's
"The prices shown on this Website at the time of ordering are guide prices. The prices you will be charged for goods will be the actual prices displayed in the store at which your goods are selected on the day of delivery, including any promotional offers if applicable. You accept that prices of goods may, therefore, increase or decrease between the day of ordering and the day of delivery.
Waitrose
"Prices quoted are always estimated for a variety of reasons listed below, but you will always be charged the in-store price on the day of delivery or collection."
But...
ASDA
"The price of the item(s) You order will be the price on the Site at the time You place Your order or amend Your order. If a new price or promotion is in place after You have placed Your order for example, a multi-buy offer or price reduction which may be advertised on the packaging of goods you have ordered, these prices and promotions will not be applied to Your order."
Morrison's
"If you add a new product which was not in your original order and which is not sold individually by weight (see section 7.11 below), we will charge the price stated to you for that product at the time you amend your order.
If you add more of a product that was in your original order, and that product is not sold individually by weight, we will charge the price stated to you for that product at the time you placed your original order."
Ocado
"...the price of such goods will be as quoted on the website at the time you confirm your order (usually by clicking the "checkout" button) subject only to any inadvertent technical error for which we will not be liable. If you subsequently amend your order to add items, the prices charged for new products which were not in your original order will be the prices quoted at the time you confirm your amended order. However, if you add more of the same items which were in your original order, then the prices charged for these items will be the prices quoted at the time you confirmed your original order."PasturesNew wrote: »I guess it's to stop somebody, say, ordering that coffee at the cheaper price, to arrive monthly for the next six months.0 -
Whenever I do an online Tesco shop, it always tells me if an offer is not valid on my selected delivery date. It even says it again when you go to your basket.0

For so many years companies have been required to show their Terms & Conditions, and still people don't read them. Presumably the OP didn't read them?
I think alanq's post (post 3) should be a sticky somewhere!0 -
This is standard for online grocery shopping, and yes, if the price goes down you do get it at the lower price.
At least Tesco price match if they have to give you a substitute. Sainsbury's don't, then substitute £2 prawn starters with £15 packs of prawns.Make £10 per day-
June: £100/£3000 -
im sorry but I still think its wrong , if I place an order today for something that costs £5 and then on the day of delivery when they have selected it goes up in price at £7 then why should I be expected to pay that price when the invoice I was emailed over when I completed my shopping had the £5 price.
But also my argument with Tesco is why wasn't I sent another invoice with the increased price but what they stated is because I didn't go into my on line order and make any amendments that's why I never received any updated invoice but if I had of done it would of changed to the increased price which is wrong.0 -
Whenever I've done a Tesco order if the price is different from the day I ordered to the day of delivery they've always changed it when I put the order through, whether higher or lower. Don't think the price I've paid at the end has ever been changed unless they are out of stock of something.0

If you book a delivery that is outside the date of an offer, it tells you clear as day on both your basket and when you check out that you missed the offer and even tells you when said offer ends.
The 'invoice' you said you received even gives you all the information you need regarding the guide price.
Clearly it is your own fault for not reading the information provided.0 -
Clearly Timmy you work for TESCO's , and for your information it clearly states if any changes are made prior to your delivery you will be notified , which I wasn't0
-
You were notified online when you added the items to your basket and also when you checked out. It even brings the items to the top and says "items that need your attention".0
