New tv minefield

hello all, I've done a deal with Sky which i'm happy with and now I've turned my attention to TVs .

It will be sited on the wall above my mantle piece and will be sat roughly 9feet away from the screen. Personally I think a 55inch screen will be plenty big enough regardless of what the optimum screen size for the distance suggests.

looking for the best TV bellow £400 or even a second hand one
4K needed? id like it to be a smart to to watch YouTube etc... on.

Any suggestions on best place to get a good deal? or recommend me a tv from your experience's.

thanks guys :)

    Richer Sounds .
  • 1st thought is that for under £400 you'll struggle to find anything decent at 55" size.

2nd thought is that mounting it above your average mantle piece will place it far too high and you'll get cricks in your necks.

Agree with both of these statements.

The guideline for height is that the centre of the screen should be at the same height as your eyes are, when sat in your normal viewing position. This applies to computer monitors as well.

    What about something like this:-

If you can get RS to match web prices elsewhere should be just within the £400 budget.

    you don't need 4K

I purchase a Hitachi Smart TV (youtube, iplayer, netflics etc) ~50" one from argos a couple of years ago for ~ £350. They had offers on and off. Yeah I needed a soundbar too for decent sound. SO it is possible.

    My choice is Panasonic.

Smart features don't last forever on smart TV's so don't got too hung up on them
