Bailiff Threat - please help!

Update:
Well, it's 3.00 in the morning and I'm up with the kids in 4hrs, but unable to sleep because my mind won't let go of this whole bailiff thing.
Had another call from him this afternoon, which I ignored, and he left me a message saying he will be revisiting the property (didn't say when) and clocked our car last time, which he will take if need be. Rang boyfriend, who said 'let him take the car, it's only worth about £300 quid and we want a new one anyway!'. Bailiff can visit all he likes - he's not getting in my house!
Depressing thing is, visited this supposed 'expert' today and what a complete waste of time that was. Listened to me, made loads of notes, checked the council tax database and told me how much I owe in total (yeah, thanks mate, cos I didn't know that!) then rang the bailiff and left a message saying 'Miss Dale is willing to pay in instalments of £20-30 per week, can you ring her back and discuss this with her', then basically told me there was nothing else he could do! How is that expert help exactly? Also said that this kind of debt is quite often passed to a more agressive bailiffs if the current one have no joy with me. Great.
Have a refund coming from driving lessons this week (£300) which boyfriend said I should pay off the bill, but mortgage is now falling behind and so are nursery payments (nursery manager is going to hassle me for money tomorrow) and it seems like it's impossible to pay everyone.
Sinking rapidly into stress and depression again and feel like something's got to give - might well have to quit Uni if this keeps up.
Katie

Hello to everyone
Well, nothing much has changed. I got out of class at Uni yesterday and there was a text(!) from the bailiff which said, and I quote:
"Full payment of the £1024.50 debt required immediately or removal of goods". Such a man of words! So, obviously, I've sold a kidney (who needs two in this day and age anyway?) and put my chidren on ebay...
Had a really good nights sleep last night, which I needed after Tuesday and only getting an hour and a half in the end, then doing the whole school/nursery/Uni thing. Feel better and stronger today. Panic attacks yesterday after getting the text, but am now coming out all guns blazing. THEY WON'T WIN!
Bailiff obviously doesn't realise I've done my homework. He can't get in here and he thinks I don't know that. He thinks I believe that there's nothing I can do, because I've phoned him and the company in tears so many times. Am now refusing to speak to him and will not give the sadists at his company the pleasure of being nasty to me again. Am going to make some serious complaints about their call-centre staff because how dare they talk to me like I'm something they've scraped off the bottom of their shoe! And to refer to my father-in-law's death as 'a drama'!!! It's not a burst pipe, for goodness sake. I know I owe money, but what happened to courtesy and decency - it's not as if it's their personal savings account I've ransacked.
Anyway, am in excellent hands here - funnily enough, the best advice has been given here, rather than the so-called experts I've spoken to - and am going to kick some serious !!! in the courtroom.
A special hi and big hugs to jojo too - hang in there and listen to the real experts on here - they will help you no end, hope you're ok today mate xxx

So glad you are feeling stronger today. Dont delete the txt msg from that charming sxxxt keep it and if you can any record of phone calls etc; all this will serve against them!! You are in a terrible situation and I hope it gets sorted soon and that these bullies get there just desserts. Of course I would advise you to name and shame them thru the media, but that course of action always involves the person being harrassed recieving the publicity as well. I am however sorely tempted to ring your local paper and give them some anon info on the practice of this particular Bailiff company and see if others have had the same experience. This should lead to them getting there licences revoked.
Good Luck and stay strong. Remember he has no power and is probably a hen pecked little man:rotfl: whose wife rules him with a rod of iron and so this is his only chance to "act Big".:T
Keep us posted.xx:j I have a persecution complex. Everytime I pass a shoe shop they persecute me till I buy them:j0 -

Hello,
I am heartened to see that you are hanging in there and trying to surf the waves when you are feeling strong enough and not drowning the rest of the time (sorry for rubbish surfing analogy!).
You are right- you owe money- ok- we have all messed up at some point but don't let those b*****d's grind you down as you quoted!! I would be very surprised if those people in the call centre haven't had any dramas or owe any money!! It is good to see many nice and good human being on here rooting for you.
It is good you've told your partner and hope that this doesn't drain you so much you do give up your course. As long as you keep records, get info, stick up for yourself in assertive but not trampled on OR aggressive manner ( like the git baliff) and keep communicating with your Uni, partner, here, Doctor, council, etc... then you will come out of this.
Best, best wishes and hopes that this rights it self asap for you.Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!0 -
Hi i am a new user and just fell onto this site but reading all of your quotes is helping me. I recieved a letter to day saying the baliff will be coming tomorrow to collect goods ( tuesday 20th November) I am currently unemployed so I am rather struggling of late. I am about to phone them and C.A.B to see what my options are. Does anyone have any other useful info or tips to give me please?0

Hi all
Have just had a callback from my council tax office (which should have been Friday) and they've told me that unless the bereavement is someone named on the council tax bill it is not exceptional circumstances and that there is nothing they can do to help me, so back to square one again.
Feeling very low again today - Uni work is mounting up, nursery fees are sky high and mortgage company are chasing us for money we don't have. Plus Child Tax Credit went in today - still only being paid £37 per month instead of £45 because they reckon they've overpaid us and are taking it back (this happens every bloody year).

Hi Katie, have been following this thread and really feel for you. Like everyone else has advised, STAY STRONG!!!0

To top everything else off, have just discovered a) am most likely not to qualify for University Access Fun (to help or cover childcare costs) because of partner's wages and b) University Scholarship does not cover my previous course (Access to HE) because it is for 'high academic achievement'. That's just kicking me and saying that all my hard work last year is worth nothing. So, will either have to struggle through this year on very little money (don't know if it's worth the stress tho) or quit.0
