    Good morning everyone :hello:
Brrrr, I'm really cold this morning although it is forecast to be a sunny day. I got a rubbish night's sleep again but managed to have a doze in front of the tv this morning until the phone woke me up. It was an indian call centre so they got short shrift believe me .

Anyway, I am up and wake now so thought I would post. Steve went off to work quite miserably this morning as there are mutterings in work that he is going to be replaced in the job he is doing at the moment by someone with more qualifications but not necessarily more experience. Steve has been promised training for months now and nothing has been done and he feels it is because of his age so he is not a happy bunny at the moment.

I had a phone call yesterday that the adaptations to the house can go ahead but we have to pay over a £1000 towards it. Ouch, that is going to be very difficult to find but we will do our best as it will be of such a benefit to me. I am predicting lots of cheaper meals and Christmas spending will be reigned in as well.

Chicken and leek pie for dinner tonight if we have any leeks that is or one of the kids will have to pop to Tesco and get some. I will cook some mini baked potatoes to go with it too.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Cross posted with TA, lovely to hear from you, will be thinking of you on Friday and hope the service goes well xx

    Morrning all
Got butterfingers this morning, more than usual, so watch out for many typos. Made cottage pie yesterday, enough for today as well, so no cooking today, yay. Spent most of yesterday on sofa, wil attempt to get off it today and DIY some stuff up...Have ebay things to collect [thick winter curtains for donstairs which will need altering [adding to, and I have lot fo stash to choose from] and I should pick up my newly serviced sewing machine. Won't be sewing till I can feel my fingers though, so a spot of slap dash painting along with some thinking regarding light wiring route should be sufficient for the day

Jacki, hope you're better, it's a shoch when you fall and well meaning people try to haul you up i,ediately [usually], hope you're better today..Nanny, chipped tooth, it would be intriguing to see how that happened, night cam vision? Hope it's not too bad as well! red ruby, you will have a working air resistance system before long...hopefully..Happy DIYing SR, Sperky, 5 weeks! Time really does fly, glad she's better and going home, ans SO, chocolate and cream, it's making me envious...:)Dumplig, sorry to hear about Steve, and the future cost of alterations, TA, it IS a surreal time, take care, don't do too much.

Happy Tuesday with hiding places if you need them and hurdy gurdy places if you don't.

Good morning, Oldstylers :hello: - just a 'tad blustery' out there today. Could hear it getting up as I was going to bed and it continued throughout the night - but thankfully, no rain with it at the moment. supposed to stat 'dying down' around 4.00pm - the exact time as our chance of rain will increase :(.

Thanks for starting us off for the day, Nelski :T. Hope you journey into Madchester is a bit smoother than the one home yesterday evening :o.

Camelot - enjoy your swim today :D!

nmlc - hope things settle down 'workwise' for you. Low morale in the workplace is definitely no good for anybody - neither workforce, nor management :(.

silver-oldie - enjoy your outing with OH :coffee:!

redruby - best of luck dealing with the garage firm. Hope you can find somebody who has a 'sense of responsibility to customers' in that place.

    ScarlettRibbons - enjoy your mini-bathroom-makeover :j!

JackieO - sounds like you're in for a lovely day with those DGS's of yours - and all your Christmas Knitting :heart2:. I won't do any 'finger-wagging' at you - I get enough of that myself from 'my lot', so know how it feels . Besides, if you're anything like me, you DO know when you're 'doing something you shouldn't' and just take the risk anyway ;)!

Csarina - hope all goes well with your bag-making ........................ I've got a 'fabric stash' if you fancy a rummage through it ;) :rotfl:.

Speky - hope all goes well for your Gran moving back home again. I'm sure I've said before but - TGFW sounds as though she was 'more into YOU, than you were into HER' - be gentle with her, but don't give her 'false hopes' ;).

Gers - definitely time to 'hunker down' at the moment. I'd love to be able to hibernate from now to March ;)!

TA - Hard to know what to say, but you're 'moving through' the grieving process with the help of your wonderful family/friends and it's brilliant that they all want to be part of the Celebration of Life on Friday. This stage of things, is like 'living in Limbo' - nothing else can come into focus until after the Celebration Event and then we have to start to get on with a 'different normality' ........................ but it sounds as though you'll have lots of support to help you. Thinking about you.

dumpling - sorry to hear about your OH's job - hope it doesn't happen like that for him :(. Best of luck with the adaptations in your home :).

taff - enjoy your sewing project with the curtains. Are you having 'sensitivity problems' with your fingers? I've been unable to 'feel' with the tips of mine ever since my operation (18wks) following a failed cannula. I can't knit/sew/crochet and I've dropped lots of stuff in the kitchen - so frustrating :(.

Thinking about all those with poorlies to look after and those who are unwell themselves - ((((GENTLE HUGS)))) for you all.

Also thinking about everybody with 'work issues' going on - it must be a terrible time to be 'unhappy in the workplace' with jobs so uncertain, businesses struggling and even the country not knowing what is going to happen through - and post - Brexit :(.

With all that's going on, I keep getting a picture of deja vu where Teresa May is concerned - looks like the 'back-stabbers' are circling, as they did with Margaret Thatcher. Also looks as though Boris could be the 'John Redwood figure' this time around

I've been asked to cover for somebody at the Charity Shop again today - so will be heading there for the afternoon. I spotted a foldable (but strong) walking stick in there yesterday that I may get today - I need to send my crutches back to the hospital now, so this stick will be quite adequate for what I need. Also need to go and collect my monthly prescription and see if I can still order any Gluten Free items on prescription - things are changing in that direction, so we never know if we can or can't :(.

Take care out there today folks - I know that many of you will be having much stronger winds than we've got - especially those who will be driving on open Motorways.

Have a good Oldstyle Day - luv Ollie xx

Ollie, can you go back to the docs ands ee what they can do? I know my mother had one put in they ad to move a vein around, the end result was that her fingers started burning with pain because they'd cut off the blood supply to her fingers. They had to re-route it.

Mine is just normal side effect neuropathy, the tips and nails hurt like !!!!!!y, touching things or grasping things is a bit owie, precision working is not possible :)

  • Morning all, as yesterday, I decided not to spend time on the net J til I'd done at least one job. I've been using a mould and mildew spray in the bathroom. It reeks. I'm still in an ancient pair of pjs as it doesn't much matter if they get any stuff on them, have learnt to my cost that getting dressed first simply is not worth it.

Thank you for letting us know how you are TA, it is good to know that you are getting such good support. I know that we will all be thinking of you on Friday, as we have throughout.

JackieO do you happen to have any arnica? It is good for bringing out bruising, I have run out but when I use it, I always feel that the bruises go away a bit ,ore quickly. That could of course just be in my mind but worth a try.

Hope Holly is a bit more comfortable today.

Thinking of all of us who are unwell or worried, hoping that Captain H'S is recovering well.

Once the bathroom is dried out a bit, I'll have a shower and then carry on with attacking the inside of the kitchen cupboards. I'm doing jobs I hate and tend to put off, then I might feel virtuous but somehow I doubt it.

Hope everyone has asgood a day as possible
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Thanks for that suggestion, taff - I'll be making an appointment to see my GP next week, so will mention it to them then.

It's 'precision work' that I'm not good at - can't feel a sewing needle at all and struggling to control the yarn when knitting/crocheting.

Picking things up is sometimes 'hit/miss' - I'm ok when I can see that my fingers are touching what I want to lift, but if it's getting hold of something from the inside of a cupboard (or even microwave) I can't always see what I'm going to lift, so don't know if I've got 'full control' or not :(.

The 'Magic Soup' episode made my kitchen look like a 'slaughter house'. Fortunately, it was only defrosting in the microwave, so wasn't hot - bits of it were still quite frozen - so nobody got scalded ............ but it still went down the wall tiles, kitchen unit, inside of microwave, over the floor and some went under the 'kick board' at the bottom of the unit .
  • Csarina - hope all goes well with your bag-making ........................ I've got a 'fabric stash' if you fancy a rummage through it ;) :rotfl:.

Thanks for the offer, I could give you fabric........Have finished the one bag made from a cut off from a pair of linen curtains, off to start on another one now. This is when I miss my 12000 :( I would have embroidered on the front pocket.......just about to cut another one out of strong calico......then I need to go through what I have and see if I really need to make anything else.

Thanks for posting TA. I was wondering how you were. A celebration of life is such a nice way to remember someone.

]Silver-oldie[/B] - Hold on...chocolate with cream? Is that a drink? I don't know what it is but by god is sounds delicious!
    .[/QUOTE]

Yes Speky it's a drink, Hot drinking chocolate, with cream swirled on the top and mini marshmallows on the cream. :D

Jackie any chance you could share your pattern to make knitted little Christmas puds, hope your feeling better after your fall?

TA I will be thinking of you on Friday
If you walk at night no-one will see you cry.
  • Good to hear from you TA, I have been thinking of you and will certainly will be thinking of you on Friday.

Hello all, sorry for the late post but we have been out since the crack of dawn ( well 10.30am :D ) shopping . We swooped into Sm*ths toys and got everything on DGD list for Christmas :T. She only needs some odds and ends now. Drove round to Te*co in the city for normal shopping and some Christmas goodies which are tucked away. We managed to get a turkey crown, some party food and 2 gateaux, all now hidden in the bottom of the freezer. I also finished off Dad's hamper stuff, which he probably won't like anyway. We shall take it up in the morning to wish him Happy Birthday then Mr Fix It has booked lunch somewhere for us, as it will be our anniversary tomorrow too.
Nelski does that count instead of afternoon tea ?
We didn't get home till 3pm and I'm shattered. I bought some chicken enchiladas but I'm too pooped to even get it for tea. Maybe I can get Mr Fix It to oblige :D. All he's done all day is carry his phone around and read the lists to me :rotfl:.

JackieO was it the gin ? ;) Hope you are OK and being pampered by your DGS.
TA special hugs and support coming your way. It will be an emotional time for you all, but I'm sure the celebration of Bob's life will be absolutely lovely on Friday.
Holly I hope you are in less pain now. Gentle hugs for you my friend.

Sorry I have forgotten who said what :o. Many apologies but my brain has shut down as I'm soooooo tired today.

Sending get well soon hugs to all the poorly people. Take care everyone.
    nan xx
