This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

[STRIKE]Still night in my world[/STRIKE] Morning lovelies :)

Up and ready to leave in an hour or so back down the regent road. Really wasn't too bad yesterday morning compared to coming home last night. It took two and a half hours to do the 20 miles ...I just wanted to cry. Seriously considering turning work down at this site till this is sorted but thats a big decision over blummin roadworks.

Anyway thats my daily traffic report over i know its eagerly anticipated :D Course went well yesterday so hoping for the same today. Last day of work today then mum tomorrow then my pen friend from Canada arrives Thurs :j Excited about her coming but i have somehow made it a big stress so hoping once they arrive I can relax and enjoy all the plans ...and theres lots.

Jackie hoping your feeling a bit better now ma....cue waggling pointy finger ...will you please be careful 70 miles an hour is as good as 100. Glad the lads are looking after you though

nanny I prescribe an afternoon tea ...we will get it in the diary. Hope Dad comes round a bit before tomorrow but if not thats his choice eh.

Right quick cuppa before hitting the road. Have a great day if you can :A

    Morning All

Blustery out, I'm sure the rain isn't far away!

I went swimming before work and did a yoga class after, I'm glad my neighbour decided not to start this jogging malarky, I've somehow said I would go with her - I really don't do running! Swimming again this morning then a long day at work.

Hope your car is finally fixed RR.
Hugs to all the poorlies and sads.

Have a good day, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Nelski - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, but cooler in the mornings now, dry underfoot.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him as he wants a lift to the gym I suspect.

Dinner last night was a cheeky egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms and beans. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. Hairdresser is coming tonight so it'll be a bit disjointed as it's fat club too.

Work yesterday was another all or nothing type day, the morning wasn't too bad then went mad in the afternoon doing one job and was the other way round in another. The problem that we have is the immediate management are not listening and supporting the staff now, there's still lots of unhappy staff. We'll see what develops today.

    Keep safe and well x

Cooler here this morning would not be surprised if we had a frost, I got some baby clematis in last night as they are not big enough to withstand a frost yet.

Camleot thank you for asking, no car is not sorted yet  bloke came out had a look at car noticed at the same time as me that the last bloke has caused extensive scratching on the body work and not put either the glass or door handle on properly, took loads of photos and was going to report to his boss who was supposed to phone me yesterday but no phone call, I must say I am very much less than impressed with them and would not use again ! I will phone today !

Work for me today and then giving blood straight after so I will be late home, OH will start dinner which I suspect will be a chilli and rice.

Hester I hope CHS is improving xx

TA hope you are as OK as you can be xx

Poppy gently hugs to you xx

Hope Holly is doing ok xx

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning, it seems dry outside, that's all I know at the moment.
Thank you Nelski for starting. I hope you have a better day travel wise.

Sorry to hear you had a fall Jackie O.

Yesterday was ok, replacing sealant in the bathroom has turned into stripping the wallpaper, painting etc. Replacing the bathroom cabinet, generally rejigging storage in there.
I know I said it needed gutting, well this is a mini gut. We bought the paper about 18 months ago and it has been maturing on top of a wardrobe since then.

We are taking it slowly - the days when we finished stuff in a couple of days are long gone.

Today, I'm going to my usual tai chi session, got to get a couple of cards and post them, and it'll be the quiz tonight.

    That's it really.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Thinking of the poorly and sad people.

    Take care folks

Good morning all a warm day at the moment and forecast of 15c so not too bad.
yes Nelski I know,:) I have already had the finger wagging from youngest DD and even one from eldest who is 3000 miles away in New York visiting our Danny and his missus. Got the wagging finger via facetime last night just before bedtime :)
It was definitely my own fault and I will slow down a bit .Trouble is I try to pack too much into my day at times .But the boys were good lads and do look after their daft old Gran :)

Today Mikey and I are making brownies if I can find a quick and easy one for him. then this afternoon will will sit and watch a movie while I keep knitting those blooming baby balls down to 39 left to make :)

Last week someone gave me a pattern to make some knitted tiny little Christmas puds that you fill with a Ferrero Rocher (sp) chocolate to put on the table at Christmas or hang on the tree, so I may make some of those when the baby balls are done with Also I have a pattern for tiny Christmas stockings to hang on the tree as well I rather fancy doing those as well. I have some sparkly red and blue wool to make them with so they would look quite festive and it will make a change to knit something different.

The boys have this week and next week off from their school so I shall be mainly round at their house and if Mikey has his way we shall be cake making :)

Tomorrow morning I have to take two of the boys to the dentist for their check ups , but as its a really early appointment 9.00 a.m. I have promised them a treat of a Dobbies breakfast afterwards. They love the idea of choosing their breakfast, as indoors their only choice is take it or do without :) No choice when I am cooking :) bless them they are good lads though Our henry at 17 is over 6ft and I get neck ache talking to him Mikey is chuffed to bits as he has grown and now is taller than me but as I am only 5'4" its not hard But it was his goal in life to be able to pat me on the head like his three brothers and his cousin does :) cheeky monkeys :)

Right time for coffee, shower then off to face the day at DDs.

Hope everyone has a good day and <hugs> for our poorlies, sad and lonely chums

    Take care everyone

    JackieO xx

PS I really like the sound of the Good Food Fair (especially if there is gin involved ) :):):)

Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

A bit of a dull morning, no idea if its going to fine up will have to wait and see. Load of laundry on, two track suits from OH bulked it up nicely.

Waiting for him to come through for his breakfast he is a bit sleepy this morning, if he is not through in a few minutes I will be having mine.

Cleaner here today, so a mini clear up needed, I put stuff that lives on the floor on the settee so she can hoover and also move the kitchen table.

I have finished the Christmas stuff I was doing, am now looking at a couple of bags, if I get them cut out it does not take me long to make them up. I need to rummage through the fabric box, I should have some thicker fabric in there, then need to sort through the poly cotton box for something to line them with.

Hester I hope CHS is doing ok, I guess he will be a bit frustrated if he is feeling better. The weepyness is quite usual after a stroke, you may also find he is a bit more stroppy than usual.

I guess Mrs TA is busy sorting things out for Bobs funeral, I hope it goes ok for her.

Polly... I agree with your thinking to the extent that I have told my family that should I develop cancer I will not be having any treatment. To me its only prolonging the inevitable. I have lived my three score years and ten, so am quite happy. I know others will feel differently, thats their option.

Shepherds pie and veg tonight for supper.
  • Good morning everyone,

I played football back to back last night and the wind was crazy. Couldn't hit over head height otherwise it was flying away. And the wind doesn't seem to have changed much this morning either.

Nonetheless I scrapped myself up and went to the gym today. After work I've got my new tenants coming round to take measurements of the flat etc. Aside from that, I've got diddly squat planned.

For various reasons, it was just TGFW and I in the office yesterday and for the first time I sensed some awkwardness. I feel though that it was mostly in my head. We've got to stop chatting at some point and get on with work but I couldn't help but feel when we did that, it was because it was small talk. I'm probably over thinking it.

I'll give my gran a call today at some point as I believe she was planning to go home today. That will be almost 5 weeks since her heart attack and 2 weeks since her heart surgery, so a relatively quick turnaround. Let's walk before we can run.

Silver-oldie - Hold on...chocolate with cream? Is that a drink? I don't know what it is but by god is sounds delicious!
Jackie - I somehow missed that, I hope you're ok. Glad you're being looked after the boys :)
TA - I've been thinking about you lately. Hope you're managing ok.

    Good morning folks.

High winds, driving rain and dark grey skies all seem set for the day. Last night I lit the woodburner, not really for the heat but for the comfort. My truculent teenagers are still being challenging so, somehow, the dancing flames soothed me.

Today will be spent marking - again. I'm definitely not happy in my work this year, maybe it's a sign that I should stop.

Anyway, thinking about our poorlies and their loved ones.

    Happy Tuesday.
  • Morning folks. A brief one from me as I have neglected you all of late. I have been thinking about you all though and sending ((HUGS)) for all who need them.

Life is surreal just now and I seem to be dealing with all there is to do on auto-pilot. The funeral arrangements are sorted and that is planned for Friday at 12.30. I am expecting lots there as Bob was a social sort, unlike me. I am dreading it as I hate having to talk to people especially when I know I will be upset. The service has turned into a celebration of family life and the importance of family. Eldest DGD is reading a poem, middle DGD is reading 3 prayers, along with DD's lovely bf and DS has written out a potted history of Bob's life which he wants to read out himself. DD and I read it and it had us reduced to more tears. They are all much braver than I am.

We have sorted out the do afterwards and a caterer booked to do the buffet. We are expecting a lot there and I just hope we are catering for enough people. It's difficult coming up with a number but rather too much than not enough.

DD and DS have been wonderful, supporting me through all there has been to deal with and being with me every day. I have had some lovely flowers delivered and ran out of vases. I have had absolutely loads of sympathy cards sent too. So many people thinking of us. My DB and SIL have been very supportive too. Ringing or visiting every day.

Thank you all for thinking of us, especially when problems of your own. Take care xxx
