For those that have done both, which was harder/more memorable/more rewarding? Which improved you as a person or you looked back on with greatest pride? Which was more authentic and cultural? Which was more beautiful?

Everest Base Camp trek is one of the most trodden treks in the World, often done by folk who are neither adequately prepared nor give any thought for the environment.
Have a good Google around and you'll soon see what I mean. Lots of other great treks in Nepal.0 -

Isn't that the one where the walker was chased by an old crone?
Seems it wasn't.0 -
You can’t beat Matchoo Pitchoo on a clear sunny day, I was lucky. Some who have seen dawn with it covered in cloud have been massively disappointed.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Blimey! One good reason why to never stray too far off the Beaten Track without a local Guide.:eek:0 -

Absolutely. A long time ago (1991) I did the circuit of Annapurna and attempted to get to Annapurna Sanctuary (repulsed by heavy snow). While there were other people at all points of the trek it was a lot less busy than Everest Base Camp trek from what I heard. And there are other treks that are significantly less popular but probably even more spectacular.0 -

I was talking to a couple of Australian women in a cafe in Kathmandu. They were there to do a charity walk to Base Camp. Neither were experienced walkers, and one of them had uncomfortable boots!0 -
I have done the Inca trail and an Everest teahouse trek that followed much of the same route as base camp trek. I enjoyed both but preferred the Inca Trail and other treks that I've done in less popular areas have been better. Machu Picchu itself was busy but most people had come on the train from Cuzco0

The Inca Trail is the easier trek but they limit the number of people who can use it each day so booking early is better.
Note the "Inca Trail" is AN Inca Trail, there are others in the area that aren't as popular - but may be harder.0
