Marriage Question

Hi.

I have two questions.

My wife's sister has proposed to my brother. I did not agree with them going out in the first place because someone told me it is seen as disgusting. First of all is this illegal? Can they legally get married? Do you view this as disturbing or disgusting? I need some thoughts on this.

Second questions is that my brother has a lot of credit card debt that he did not pay off. My wife is worried that her sister will not be able to get mortgage if they have the same credit file. What is the reality of this and does marriage class as financial links?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Who told you it was disgusting? And why would you let someone elses opinion be more important to you than your brothers happiness?

    Why would it be illegal?

Everyone I asked so far. They said it is wrong you can't marry your brothers wife's sister. I want them to be happy but if its something not accepted then i dont know what to think.

They are 'related' by your marriage only and not blood so there are no issues. As long as they are happy who gives a poo what anyone else thinks.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

Can't see an issue with it myself.

Marriage does not create a financial link, credit files are never shared in the way you suggest. Only joint accounts create a link.

    That's a serious post?

Two unrelated people (who know each other through their married siblings) getting married. Why would it be disgusting? Why would it be disturbing? It's not even particularly unusual. Why would it be illegal?

Perhaps you should start again and start a thread about the credit file issue - without the preceding nonsense.
  • Ah the schools are off.

    Ok let’s bite.

Disgusting? Each to their own. Wrong forum for that question.

Credit files? They won’t have the same credit file. They will only be financially linked by means of a joint product - mortgage, bank account etc.

Sister will be able to get a mortgage on her own; trying to get a joint mortgage with him could be trickier depending on the ratio of earnings to debt.

Nothing illegal, immoral or even distasteful about them getting married though.

  • I know at least two situation like this, 2 brothers marrying 2 sisters.

She just needs to keep their finances separate, no joint accounts.
