My point was that one of the biggest airlines didn't the last time we checked in.

Bag drop is 40 minutes at LHR.

If the OP is staying in a local hotel there really is no reason to not leave it until the last minute......

All, thanks again for your help.

I was near Heathrow today so I jumped on a tube to terminal 2.

Turns out that check in opens, not closes 3 hours before the flight. Taxi now booked for 4.40 instead of 2.40 as the lovely lady on check in advised being there for 5 for bag drop. Check in closes at 5.50, so we have plenty of time to play with if the cab is late.

P. S. Minicabit website has been very useful in getting me a cheap car.
