Melton Building society mortgage

Good evening, I’ve currently been in contact with MBS & they’ve informed me my application is currently with the underwriters. Anyone recently done a mortgage application with MBS and can advise me how long approx is may be from now.

Relax, take up yoga. You are at the start of a potentially long process. Mortgage offer is normally the most straightforward part. House purchase throws up all sorts of curved balls.

ve only had the "pleasure" of dealing with them once - the bloke I always managed to get was as helpful as a glass hammer.

But it was a self build.

Presumably you have gone to MBS for a reason as I do not recall ever seeing them being the cheapest so there will no doubt be a reason which adds to the complexity of the case? Have you asked them what their normal time frames are or checked on their website for some sort of service standards?

  • Thank you for replying. I’m off work for a week ( work in a primary school and it’s half term) so waiting seems to be even longer. It’s shared ownership so that’s why I went with MBS as they did 5% deposit and good interest rates. My solicitor is ready to roll and complete once he’s got the mortgage offer so it’s even more frustrating. :(
  • Also it says on the website two days for DIP ( done) & then 2 days for initial assesment of application ( after payment of fees) and I’ve paid all my fees

Surveyors might be on holiday as well in your locality if it's half term.

They are slow to process, you will need to be patient.

  • They contacted me today and informed me that they’ve assessed the application and now instructed the valuation which should be sometime next week.

Seems like it’s going in the right direction

Your solicitor does have work to perform on behalf of the lender. As they work for them as well not just you. Though you are paying the bill. You won't complete immediately the mortgage offer is received.
  • That’s strange because he informed me that as soon as the mortgage offer is in place then he can contact HA to organise completion.
