Are different brands of kitchen cabinets interchangeable?

Have heard rumours that different brands of kitchen cabinet i.e. carcases can be used with different branded doors, so you could go to IKEA for your carcases and Howdens for your doors for example, any truth in this?

I think Ikea have their own unique sizes.

The rest are generally all standard.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

No. Ikea are very different from everyone else, but even the more 'English' High St kitchens all have slightly different measurements for their doors - even by a couple of mm, and totally different positions for hinges.

Why do you want to go to different suppliers?
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

No they aren't. Hinge positions vary on most.

I have had to make a jig when replacing doors before to move the hinges to suit the carcase.

Hinges tend to be universal but I think manufacturers deliberately move the positions slightly to stop people replacing the doors with rival brands.

As above I had a kitchen that the doors were trashed but the carcases were all good. I didn't know where the carcases were from but Howden's, Trade-point or Wickes doors didn't fit so had to alter the positions, it was easy enough to do just a bit head scratching to get it right.

    Warning, thread hijack.

A friends wardrobe has 90 degree hinges which need replacing with wide opening hinges, 170 degree? Can this be done without making new holes in either the door or the carcass?
