Joint tenancy council

Hi all,
I live with my mum in her council flat in SE London. She is the main tenant, she was a joint tenant with her sister decades ago but the sister moved out into another council properly.
Is it possible for me to become a joint with her?
Reasons for asking:
- if mother passes away unexpectedly I do not want to be chucked out on the street with weeks notice. I do not plan on staying at home forever this is just a worst case scenario.
Kind regards

It's possible, yes. But it's not mandatory. Your mum used her one "succession" in transferring from a joint tenancy to a single tenancy. Any further change to the tenancy would be at the behest of the council. Have a chat with them. Worst they can do is say "no", so you won't be any worse off..... And they might even say "yes"!0 -
Does it matter that it was my aunt's tenancy who relinquished it to my mum. It was still joint buy my auntie mad the move not my mum. Will speak to council anyway0

Given your last thread, it's pretty obvious that this is about Right to Buy and not fear of being turfed out. You also seem to be considering renting it out.0

It's genuinely not. We binned the idea a while back, I was going to explain the situation but decided you're not worthy of me explaining the situation.
Can anyone confirm what happens in the case of my mother passing away? Is there a grave period or do I have a few weeks to get gone?0 -
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Think you have cut off most replies. Well done. Hope you do better with the council.0

Current rules may not allow joint tenancies between family members.
My Council only allow joint tenancy between couples, regardless of what they allowed in the past.0
