Who's Liable

HI,
Here is the story. My now ex was in a bit of financial trouble so I offered to put one of her CC debts onto my CC. Now we have seperated who is liable for the debt. I have a horrible feeling that I am lumbered with it..

Unless you have something in writing to the effect she promises to pay back the money to you then very probably you are liable.

Yes, you are liable, but if she is a decent person she shouldn't lumber you with it. I did the same for an ex - he may have had his faults, but we sat down and worked out instalments and he paid me back every penny after we broke up (including the interest). Is this an option for you?
  • OK thank you for the replies. I thought that would be the case. She set up a DD to pay me back, but, who knows if that will continue.
A lesson learnt I think

Here's another lesson - if your credit rating is fairly good, you may be able to get another CC with a promotional 0% interest on Balance Transfers. Do a BT and you could save quite a bit and get the debt paid off quicker.
After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

    Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
    Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0

    Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/2011

Some lessons cannot be taught: they can only be learned.
