play.com and my wii

Ordered a wii from play.com (as a result of post - 30/10), order status showed 'processing' and then 'order taken'. 01/11 order status still showing 'order taken' so phoned and spoke with an advisor, to be told my order was on hold due to security authorisation on my card, he then asked me various security questions and told me that as the wii was on stock when I placed my order it had been allocated to me and would be despatched immediately for delivery within 4-5 days and that the system would update within 48hrs. Today status still shows 'order taken' so contacted them again to be told they have none in stock (obviously - as some greedy people placed orders for 7 consoles etc.) and my order wouldn't have been reserved (as I was informed) and the previous advisor I had spoken with must have been "confused". CONFUSED I'm bl**dy FURIOUS!!!!
Also, how can they say that they wouldn't have reserved one against my order but then tell me that as soon as they get some in they'll fulfil my order by means of a reservation?? Either they do reserve or don't!
I have however been assured that no money has/will be taken from my account until a despatch is made.

Can't say I'm surprised. Play are fine for the small items but they have real trouble with the expensive things. Your situation is almost identical to what happened to both my brother and his girlfriend. Each had ordered a laptop. My brother eventually got his laptop after a month and many phone calls. His girlfriend never got hers (at one stage, online it said it was being packed, but when she phoned they didn't even have it in stock and said they no longer were going to stock that model so tough). When my brother's laptop came it didn't even come from Play.com but some other company on the mainland. Play.com seem to act as just dropshippers/middlemen (for their laptops anyway) so no wonder they have stock indicator problems, it's not even through their company. They both first had to go through the same "security authorisation" as well and with them they also had to phone after it took so long to even find out there needed to be a security authorisation, they don't seem to tell you anything unless you contact them."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
