He said he had to drop his dad at the airport (as he was leaving, he didn't say in advance), which I didn't mind in itself, but on top of everything else on just the second day of the job it made me worry slightly about their commitment. I think it was probably also that he couldn't do much without his partner being there though he didn't say this.

Happily though, they have redeemed themselves ;) and worked hard from the next day onwards. It's taking shape really well and they are nice guys. It has been good to be around as they did need to ask a few things (though I would have been liked to be away from the noise and mess...). I'm back at work next week but hopefully most of the main decisions have taken place.

I've been making them all a brew as soon as they arrive with a big plate of chocolate biscuits. Then leaving everything on a tray for them to take care of for the rest of the day. I seemed to be interrupting them by asking through the day and it was a bit of a hazard picking my way through angle grinders to retrieve used mugs! I have topped up sugar, milk and biscuits as needed.

Oh and there seems to be just one culprit who cannot "aim" properly in the toilet. I don't know who it is and don't want to offend all of them, given it's only a couple of weeks. I've just resigned myself to checking before we use. In a week's time there should be a second toilet!

Thanks for everyone's input, it's been really helpful :)
