This is where the rules/law really needs looking into and a strong argument to bring back a national rail provider...
If there had been a national rail operator you wouldn't have got as cheap tickets in the first place, as operators set their fares to attract passengers to less busy or less popular trains.

The train was a cancelation and not a delay so that should count as 1hr+

It was some where between 25-35min, I'd have to do the maths. Surly thats if you take either their own next service or the original delayed train.
You need to check the actual delay to your journey using the tickets you bought, and that's what you are entitled to under the Passenger Charter. Historic data is available for one week at http://www.realtimetrains.co.ukMy heart really goes out to all travellers who do not have the funds in the bank to get out of a situation like this and like I said before, I'm more shocked that if a train is canceled that the tickets are not valid on any provider that can get you too where you need to be.
The ticket is not valid on other providers' trains because those other providers won't have received much/any fare income from your operator-specific ticket. That's why ticket easements have to be authorised.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
I know it’s off topic. But yes, I struggle with spelling all my life. I know when it looks wrong but can’t correct it. I can type at a very fast speed and I know how to word things when writing, Some of it is down to bad education (off of where we’re there their) etc but what really confuses me is when I read something back and don’t spot what I’ve done wrong. The main one is when my brain thinks I’ve written the correct word and when I read it back I read the correct word.... but then two day later I read it again and see I’ve used the wrong word... often these are small common words like “and” “the”.... strange!0

As a matter of fact, cheap Advance Purchase tickets were introduced in the early 1980s for precisely the reasons you state.0 -

You are not alone... I do suggest that you use technology such as spelling checks to help you, and above all ask a friend to read through anything important before you send it.0 -
You can write things in a word processor (eg Word) and use its spelling checker, then copy-and-paste across to your web browser.

Yep, use a spell checker, but often my words are spelt correctly but are the wrong word to what my brain is telling my fingers too type so they don’t get picked up by a spell checker. It’s no big issue for me. I’ve learnt to pick an alternative word as I’m writing that I know I can spell if I struggle. I do think it’s strange that I can see that it’s spelt wrong usually all the letter are there, just in the wrong order lol0

Also... i was placed in ‘special lessons’ (thicko class) in Junior School for my spelling. The teacher was rather nasty and no way encourage me.
I work with letters and numbers all day for the NHS... just thankfully no letters to send ��0 -
Hi, sorry, but I didn’t see this. I’m not on Twitter. They have my booking information & my email address / home address, phone number. Why do they not contact everyone who’s booked for this train to inform them. If a concert or theatre is cancelled then the venue emails everyone who’s booked.... why doesn’t a train provider do the same?
No one at Kings Cross told us of this alternative arrangement. And a coach from Peterborough to Hull is not an acceptable alternative IF there are spaces on other providers trains to Doncaster.
My reference to the twitter image was not on the basis that you should have used twitter, but to document for you what you should have been advised of at Kings Cross.
As said by others above, buying a ticket restricted to a specific operator really does tie you to that operator and its arrangements (usually next service, but here they provided a coach substitution). Hull Trains actually sells a full range of tickets of that kind, not just Advances, where the saving is actually quite small over the equivalent any permitted.
Interestingly most of the special arrangements published for this week until Friday to cover HT cancellations do involve using specific LNER trains at least in part. Maybe they prefer coaches at the weekend, which might at least ensure people a seat if not a particularly good journey.
I may have missed it, but it still isn't clear to me whose staff you talked with at Kings Cross.0 -
Most likely LNER won't allow space for holders of "Hull Trains" only tickets at weekends due to their services already being busy.
Hopefully you will get something back from Hull Trains, but don't hold your breath as their customer services are a bit overworked at the moment.0
