Non payment of daily living component of pip

I have just found out that because during my telephone assessment for pip I told them that I lived in sheltered accommodation, and this has unknowns to me resulted in the aforementioned. This has been from the 14 Feb 18, till 20 Oct 18, if I hadn’t of phoned DWP on another issue, the kind person looking into my pip, I would not have known.

Ok they are now giving back to me what is mine belatedly, my question is,

As they have made the blunder, can I make a claim for interest that would have accrued on that money, or even compensation for their screw up, or both

Thanks

Did you not notice your PIP payments had reduced / stopped?

What did you tell them in the telephone call?

First step may be a SAR - but in your case since the matter has been rectified following a further phone call, I wouldn't pursue it.
Is there someone you can make DWP telephone calls on your behalf, to avoid any further misinterpretations in the future?

  • When you apply for benefits you expect to get it all.

All I told them I had moved into sheltered accommodation

As this clearly seems a case of maladministration, should I say something,

Somebody may have made a mistake or you may accidentally have given them wrong information. Accidents and errors happen. There is no automatic right to compensation when a simple error has been made. Any underpayment will be corrected.
If you can show that you have had additional costs e.g. bank charges for being overdrawn, due to the error these may be reimbursed.
