DWP electronic correspondence

Hitting a brick wall with the DWP.

I need a copy of my award notice from the DWP - should be easy enough you'd think? But we're having issues with the post, things are just not arriving and I'm worried about fraud. The RM are being useless and it's either that our redirection is going wrong or the redirection from the previous occupants probate manager is going wrong (similar surnames) and they could possibly be getting some of our post. Or maybe the postman is dodgy? They don't seem to care.

Anyway I asked if, as I have a secure nhs email could they email me the statement. Shouldn't be hard as I correspond with them by email anyway. No can do. Ironic given that they're happy to correspond electronically about me to another nhs board as part of their "medical assessment".

So I emailed back and said that's fine, can you arrange for me to pick up a statement from a government building like a job centre or as a one off post it out to another address? I realise that another address that I'm not registered to might need some sort of security clearance so that might be a headache.

Not that any of this mattered when they diregarded me for over a year and kept posting my correspondence (including my whole DLA file) to my nosey neighbour because they couldn't/wouldn't update my address with the flat number even though I kept sending my council tax bill even highlighting the flat number and asking them to please update the file.

Their reply? Phone us.

Really helpful, telling someone who can't use the phone and has your alternative access email address to phone you. Good going there guys.

Anyone know how I can get a copy of my award with the dates on it without relying on the Royal Mail.

Post going astray is bad enough, but if it has been going to a property with which you have no connection (the nosey neighbour) you need to raise a formal complaint.

According to Royal Mail redirection, post sent to you from a government department such as DWP will not be redirected, it will be returned to the relevant department which sent it out.

Have you notified DWP of your current actual address?

Yes they have my current address. I've been here almost a year.

We don't know if the issue is related to me being very remote so we don't get daily deliveries and post just going astray, the post person being dodgy (bank card, PIN, HMRC correspondence and some other items that would be in official looking envelopes all not appearing but my magazine subscription arrives like clockwork).

I've complained to RM, they have "investigated" but their conclusion is that it's possible the bank hasn't addressed properly (doubtful), That the post has been mislaid on our non-delivery days, has been mis-sorted for the wrong island (to be fair they all end up looking the same) or has been addressed to me at my new address but has been picked up by the redirection from my new house to the old owners family due to our names looking vaguely similar. There's also the possibility that the DWP are using the old address as they are mildly incompetent but they are adamant they are using the correct address (though they said that about the dla file).

I did complain about the DLA file going awol to the neighbour but they didn't even as much as apologise. They basically palmed me off with another mandatory reconsideration for my dla to pip transition which they didn't find in my favour. I won that in the end as the tribunal hauled them over the coals.

I had a similar issue - Royal Mail 'dismissed' the complaints but then about 12 months later we got a plastic bag delivered with a load of missing post. The covering letter apologised and confirmed they had actually been investigating and had found an attic full of post at the postwoman's home.

It read the like the dismissal of the complaints was more a tactical move to cover for the investigation and make sure it didn't get back to the postwoman before they could act.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
