£100 fine for being dropped off at Ibis Hotel

My parents took me to the Ibis in Swansea where I was due to meet my partner. The weather was absolutely atrocious so I waited inside the car until it stopped raining. We arrived at 14:01:59 and my parents left the hotel at 14:29:58 (according to the fine). Any advice on this, please?

What did the signs say in the area you parked in?

  • Its authorised parking only. You don't pay, you enter your details at the reception. They weren't even staying though, just dropping me off. Granted I didn't get out of the car straight away but as I stated, the weather was horrific so I only waited until the rain stopped.

Where did they park up, there's a taxi rank out front in full view of a CCTV camera, I don't suppose they parked and waited there?

Even so, the advice, remains the same, get an admin to move this post onto the parking forum and read the newbies sticky there. Also may be worth contacting the hotel.

Didnt understand any of that, too much head work. They're just going to pay the fine now.

If they give up that quickly, it may not be such a bad thing.
Where exactly did they park - was it in a specified hotel parking area and if so have you spoken to the hotel manager to get it cancelled, waving your reservation/invoice while doing so?

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Suit yourself. Most of us would not pay.
  • I stayed in the Ibis in Gloucester a couple of weeks ago, and the car park signage states that if you don't register the car at reception within 20 minutes you will get a ticket. All the OP had to do was register their parents car to avoid getting a ticket.

I have moved this to the sub board despite OP having apparently decided not to fight the ticket after all.

I rarely post on here but I feel compelled to add that if everyone just pays up without a fight then it just encourages these firms to carry on !
