O/S Daily Saturday 20th October 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dark and temperature has really dropped overnight, heating came on in the middle of the night, although the next few days are forecast as becoming bright and sunny.

DH and I enjoying first cuppas, I've showered, dressed and just finished brekkie as I'm working this morning.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had baked fish and vegetables, tonight it'll be hot quiche, pork pie (menfolk), hot bbq chicken wings, salad, skinny chips and HM coleslaw.

Yesterday I did get some of my jobs done but not all, so will have to go with it.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning and hugs to all with challenges.

Third night of 4.00am wakening, I hope it doesn't become a habit!

Today I'm at a friend's all day, doing a vision board of how I would like my life to develop over the next wee while. Of course, to quote John Lennon, "Life is what happens when you're making other plans", but unless we have plans, life happens by default. I've found it a useful way of pulling dreams and emerging ideas into reality, and it's a fun thing to do with other people.

It's a shared lunch, so I'm taking a couple of items and some berries. I've the last of the pork casserole for this evening's meal, with Savoy cabbage and broccoli.

Yesterday's big OS success was washing a down jacket and tumble drying it with solid wool drying balls. The instructions on the care label said to use tennis balls, but I didn't use them as I wondered if the dye would transfer, or the smell of rubber. The jacket looks great.

It's 13C here today, warmer than it's been, but on the whole a mild autumn and I've only had to use a little background heating. Still finding my way with the storage heating, but so far so good.

Hoping you have the best weekend possible. xxx

Nels Thanks for letting us know about Holly xx

Thinking of you and CHS Hester xx

Fruit Corner remains untouched – instead of sorting rasperberry plants, mr tru decided to hack at that awful leylandii that's intruding from next door. Neighbour has done nothing about it, neither has her landlord (the HA). So mr tru took off what he could, it looks awful but my garden seems massive :D There's still more to lop off but he's going to need help, hopefully we can borrow a scaffold tower from a friend. I'm still worried about the roots but legally all we can do is wait for roots to cause damage them claim off our insurance. Hardly seems fair, does it? We'll have to pay the excess on a claim then I expect premiums will go up. Obviously it's still an IF at the moment, but I don't see why our insurance company or us should have to pay anything. I'm going to investigate this a bit more.

On the plus side, the chickens now have an enormous pile of branches to play with :D They're rooting through, pecking away at it all. Also, the leaves are great for mulching and composting for plants that like acidic soil. I'm going to have to start another compost bin.

It's cold and foggy at the moment so I'm not sure what to do today. I'll take The Scamp for a walk then decide whether to do indoor jobs or get out into the garden.

    Morning all.

Seems colder than yesterday here, DM's heating has kicked in, such luxury!

We did the supermarket sweep yesterday for a change. That leaves just the paper to buy this morning and a quick visit to drop off a belated birthday gift. :j

I took DM to visit her neighbour who is in a care home waiting to move into a new flat. The neighbour fell in March during which she damaged her back very badly. Now she can only walk with a large upright walker type contraption, this means she can't get up or down stairs. They were both delighted to see each other so that was worthwhile.

Thoughts to all our poorlies in body or spirit.

    Happy Saturday.

Good morning, very dark here this morning, up early for the tip run, will pick up some odds and ends on the way back. Friends calling tomorrow at lunchtime on their way to holiday destination, not sure what to give them as I expect they will eat a meal later with family. I would like to bake, but not sure I will have time. French bread, cheese, olives, some cold meat perhaps.

Sending hugs and spoons to all that need them, need breakfast and a to do list for the day, felt rotten most of yesterday, so not much achieved:(

I think /know we are going to have a problem soon with our neighbour. He bought the house a couple of years ago and planted leylandii right against our boundary. I did try and talk to him put he's very rude. The conifers have been planted about 12inches from our garage and side wall and are already nearly as tall as the garage.
wondered if you have any idea what our legal position is tru, sure the leylandii will cause damage soon.

Hope you all have a good day

    Morning All

Damp and gloomy here this morning, I've been awake since 4.30, finished a book and had a roam about the interweb.

Thanks for the update Nelski, hope you have a good weekend.
    Congrats on the baby news.
Speky, I would go with the letting agents if you're not nearby. DDs flat in Glasgow is rented through agents, they vet the clients and deal with anything that comes up.

Apart from some shopping I did nothing yesterday apart from catch up with programmes I had missed, although I did make some rather nice Thai carrot soup.

Hope you all have a good weekend, take care. XX

    Good morning everyone :hello:
I slept a bit better the last couple of nights so no 4am postings thank goodness. I got up at 7 today and had a wash and got dressed. It feels a little cooler than normal but at least it isn't raining. Steve has big plans today to cut the grass, move stuff around in the attic and hide away the Christmas presents that have already been wrapped.

I started making a knitted doll last night so I will be carrying on with that. I've actually run out of a few colours so I was forced into buying more yarn yesterday :D:D. That should be coming early next week so I can crack on with my Christmas knitting.

I am cooking today for a change as Steve is going to be very busy. I am going to make a cooked breakfast but for dinner as we have lots of bits to use up. The kids really like it too so it's a win win. We have shopping being delivered this morning so the kids will unpack it and put it away for me and I have bought them some ice cream to say thanks.

Such lovely news about the babies, it really brightened my morning and I can't imagine how excited you are snoozer :). Sending hugs and well wishes to our poorly and worried people too and as always, thinking of TA xx

I hope you all have a lovely weekend whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning everyone,

Thanks for letting us know about Holly Nelski like other’s have said I am in admiration of her courage, please pass on my best wishes to her x
Interesting concept doing a vision board WeeMidge Enjoy your day.
Another vote for using a letting agent Speky it may well save you money in the long run should there be any problems.
Not masses of plans for my day, Lu has worked three days on the trot so today will be a pamper day and will take Tilly for a good yomp around the fields. I have a bit of a wait for my first physio session, 5th November but they have sent me a programme of exercises which are helping.

Have a good day folks x

taff, it must be very difficult to make yourself eat when everything is tasteless.

Thanks for the update Nelski, tell Holly we're thinking of her. Is today when your visitors arrive? Have a lovely time with them.

Hugs for all the poorlies and all those who are sad or have other challenges.

I was looking forward to going over to Chris and Crystals this afternoon but plans have changed. They might come here for dinner but I've told them not to if it's too complicated for them. I think they are trying to cram too much into the day because they feel guilty about cancelling our other plans to go and help Crystal's sister (she is splitting up with her husband).

I shall spend my day sewing now so that's no hardship!
