I friend asked me to have a look at his bill for his flat.
On standard tariff. Meter reads seam about ok thankfully.

I reckon its about 7000KWH a year, 2/3 at night

CEC shows this as £1025-1045 year which is a lot for a flat

When I look at the the other 3 fixed fixed deals from npower they are all more expensive!!!! !!!!!! ? at £1140 year

I know npower have gone down hill, but

The maximum saving across CEC is only £238 year. I was expecting more

The only way to minimise energy bills is to monitor them yourself rather than just waiting for the bill to come in because by then you've already used it.

Putting some effort into reading the meter regularly, alt least once a mont but preferably once a week allows you to identify what using it and when. If you dont monitor it you can't control it.

I dont know whether 7000kwh/year is good or bad for a flat as it depend on how it's used, how warm it's kept, what equipment is used an when. You could have two flats side by side with significantly different energy consumptions.

We live in a 3 bed 140sq.m detached bungalow out in Fenland and we are at home all day. We only use 7200kwh a year on a single rate tariff costing about £904/year - but we have a heat pump. We could save even more if my wife was a bit more frugal and didn't waste energy and hot water.

As an update, remember this is for a friend, not me.

Main issue appears to be that meter reads have not been sent.
They have over estimated the night reading significantly. This results in £57 credit IIRC.

Looking at the usage over 2 years, I think he only needs to pay £90/month (this is worse case).

Anyway back to the main point, I notice EDF have more E7 tariffs inline with what I would expect. (i.e fixed being cheaper (slightly))
A move to EDF would save less than £100, much less that I was expecting.
