It's just legalised theft IMO, the energy supplier has now profited to the tune of the topup amount abd supplied no energy for it.

What gives the power company the right to benefit where no supply has been made? They will be able to see a voucher was issued and hasn't been used, yet they pocket the money.

If paid by credit / debit card, why can't the purchase be refunded after the expiry date of the voucher? Or a refund given to someone with the original receipt?

No it's not - If you lose a £5 note, you cant just nip into the bank and ask them for another one.

Well that's true. :) But you can spend a £5 note almost anywhere!

Before I post more, I accept I lost it = its *my* fault however the post by newmover I can partly see where they are coming from. Look at it this way:

Voucher lost / blowing about in the breeze:

Chances of someone picking it up = not very likely really, who does pick up just white bits of paper ?

Chances of that person who did pick it up actually having and/or knowing someone on EON *and* having a Smart PAYG = even less likely!

At least if it had been a key that had been lost, there was an easier method of tracing it and when the replacement key arrived / picked up there would be the appropriate credit already on it.

As above, I lost it so I see it as just a price to pay for the convenience of not having a key to break / lose and the increased methods of payment available. I will admit it still is slightly annoying though!

Completely different, these energy topups can be reprinted or refunded if not used after a certain amount if time, christ this person has the original receipt and the people at the paypoint outjet knew them

They just aren't refunded or reissued because energy companies benefit massively from it.

It would be good to know the total of vouchers issued and not used from each ebergy company.

They cant have it both ways, either make it possible to refund / reissue vouchers where an original reciept is presented and the voucher expired or make it mandatory to have a key / card to buy one so it's linked to a specific account.
