caravan recovered without permission

I thought it was advised to NOT send letters as signed for as standard first class is deemed to have been delivered after 2-3 (?) days anyway ?

(get proof of postage)

Or is that for other types of official letters ?

Correct ... sent 1st class from a PO with a certificate of posting and the letter is deemed delivered 2 working days later unless the intended recipient can prove otherwise.

For a belts and braces approach, send the letter twice, once each from different Post Offices.

Only where an act authorises or requires a document to be sent by post.

The sending from different post offices is because small claims works on balance of probability and while a court may give the benefit of the doubt that one letter wasn't received, its highly unlikely that 2 sent from different post offices and routed separately would both fail to arrive.

thank you to everyone for taking the time and trouble to answer, the people from from Pulse (the caravan breakers) have been really nice and are going to empty our caravan while I am on the phone, to talk them through what is where, we have now had an offer of £4000 for the caravan so we can now put that towards a newer one. the loss adjusters are still out of order, but at least we will have are belongings back and a payout. thanks you, you lovely people xx
