Help for possibly complex situation - working, mature student and two kids

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone can help me with the entitlement minefield. I can't seem to locate any relevant information.

In summary we currently are entitled to a small amount of tax credits based on our income. I work part time evenings, my husband full time. Our two boys are both under two.

New situation - husband has just started studying full time and has received full maintenance loan. We're finding both of us working and his studying a lot to handle with no childcare.

The plan is possibly for my husband to either stop work or drop down to a couple of days a week. I just can't see how it'll impact our entitlements.

We'd both be earning approximately 6k per year each and 11k maintenance loan per year.

The eldest boy turns two in January.
To make things complex we're in Hampshire which I believe moves you over to UC when you have a change in circumstances.
Thank you in advance

you can run some scenarios but you will first need
income from 17/18 (which your current award will be based on)
estimated income for 18/19 scenario 1 - including full time income for x months
scenario 2 - again calculating on full year income
there is a £2.5 disregard so if the reduction is less than £2.5k there would be no change in award
  • I've tried some of the online benefits calculators but they all say if you're a full time student they can't give any accurate information. I'm finding the whole process quote daunting and difficult to find information on. Thankyou

Hard to say without knowing a bit more but how many hours would you both work?
  • Mine varies but it's usually at least 16h per week and my husband will be doing X2 8h days
